I know we aren't aggressive, but we are not playing by the same rules when it comes to whats a foul or not as south carolina is.

7 fouls on us, 0 on them.

Herard is just overmatched. We have too many turnovers trying to go inside.

We're terrible at defensive rebounding. To be fair though, if we get in the way of a rebounder that goes over our back, it's a foul on us. The sec should be ashamed they go to such efforts to protect the higher rpi team

msstate7
02-28-2017, 07:34 PM

msstate7

Peters is just out of control. He hurts us as much as he helps us. TOs, long 3s that lead to transition, and dumb fouls

msstate7
02-28-2017, 08:20 PM
I don't get howland at all sometimes. Wright gave us good mins in the first half and we just sit him in the 2nd half and the lead continues to grow

The thing is though is that we still play most games very close despite playing so bad sometimes. I think we are going to get a lot better over this offseason. Q has been hurt and not the same, hopefully he can have a strong offseason as well. If we can tighten up our presence in the paint next year we will be a pretty damn good team.

MarketingBully
02-28-2017, 08:30 PM
Here's what I see and why we suck right now. We have players on offense who still don't understand or know how to run our offense. Because of this, we get a lot of off the ball fouls called because we end up setting moving screens. Our bigs don't set the screens at the right times so we end up passing it around the perimeter or when Holman plays center he gets pushed too far away from the basket so our spacing is ****ed. Herard just plain looks lost both on offense and defense. He really has no clue how to play at this level at all.

Anyone who doesn't think Ado would have given us 4-5 more wins this year knows nothing about basketball. Our guys getting minutes at center are Herard (who does have a high ceiling but is just plain terrible right now) and Holman (who isn't a center and doesn't understand how to play the center position). Those guys should not be getting as many minutes as they are at the center position.

With that said, we don't look like a team that is playing in our 29th game but our 3rd or 4th. The team that started the season 3-1 would beat the crap out of this crappy team. Howland gets a D- for his coaching job this year. It would have been an F if not for all the youth we have.

tcdog70
02-28-2017, 08:31 PM
Our players don't value the ball. Kegler has too many turn overs. Wright and Carter will be good players going forward. I wish the would take every shot the rest of the game.

It's hard to value the ball when you have no one on the team that wants to be the guy. We have a lot of followers on our team and no leaders. Nick Weatherspoon is an alpha vocal leader so he will be a huge help next year.

It also doesn't take rocket science to know Malik Newman was rated top 10 player period in the nation and he didn't come in and look comfortable. All of these guys we have get praised by the coaches at some point, its a whole different story when they actually get on the floor in game action. Not saying they won't be good players but pretty sure you'd be saying the same thing about any of our current players had they not been able to play yet this year. The Malik Newman situation sucked ass but he played hurt with turf toe the whole year. If he stayed for his sophomore year, odds are good he would have had a great season this year and probably be a first round draft pick. With Newman, this year is probably much different with us being a solid NIT team.

What I want to know is how Silva is a basketball player? All he does is foul. He fouls when players get position for rebounds and he goes over their back, he fouls when he gets position down low on offense, and he really fouls a lot on what he calls defense. I'd say he has fouled out of at least 10 games. If refs don't call fouls on him, then he is unstoppable because how can you defend and go up against that?

This year is a wash. I think next year will be a lot better simply for the fact that it will be a fresh start for these guys and there will be different dynamics on the team. First things first though, some of these guys need to become leaders of the team. I think the infusion of Ado, Brooks, and Nick W will add quite a bit and I think Nick will be an instant leader for these guys. Too many followers and not enough people leading the team.
