... Would it be bad if a paid university lobbyist got involved with a recruiting scandal and the NCAA found out about it?

Again, hypothetically speaking of course...

Hmmmmm

Hypothetically- a paid university official not employed by the athletic office being implicated in a recruiting scandal could get a program in some real serious shit....

DeviousDawg

That would be the hypothetical nail in the coffin.

They really think they can do whatever the hell they want. The problem isn't that they considered what is in or outside the rules and decided to break them, they just did whatever the hell they wanted.

Various jobs- but dealing with football recruits off campus isnt one of them.

Definitely.

Question, though...is this rumor associated with this past recruiting cycle, past classes, or all of the above?

It's bad thing but I bet the school that this is hypothetically about will say it's a good thing.

Being out of state and out of the loop, will someone please explain to me in plain English what the hell we are hypothetically talking about. Hypothetically, of course.

You know there is a bill that has passed the Senate and is making its way to the House that prohibits State Agencies, Universities and Community Colleges from hiring contract lobbyists with state funds. That isn't a hypothetical.

Chip good information, I was not aware of this bill either. I still keep up with whats happening in Mississippi, even though I haven't lived there for about 12 years. Mississippi is still my home and is my families history!
The only lobbyist that should be paid, should be working for economic development from outside Mississippi!

Is there a hypothetical email address we can send this information to, so that we don't slander lobbyist publicly???

The names will eventually leak. No need to do it here and bring additional headache to their families and employers, who in all likelihood weren't involved. They didn't offer some of us in this thread that courtesy, but it's the right thing to do.

I have no reason to think that this bill was originated because of the hypothetical posed as the premise of this thread. However, the relevance, well, is undeniable.

My post was a joke. I was playing with the words Freeze used in his tweet regarding emailing the compliance dept. about recruiting violations...I suppose I should have thrown in some ***

Some of them are in Jackson every time the legislature is in session. State has them. They are not illegal, but what the unm ones are accused of doing is illegal.

Serious question. Why is everyone so secretive on information they bring to the board. If you're going to be so quick to provide us information, why not just tell us details?

I don't think anyone wants to be too specific for fear of...well...a 'blizzard' of legal threats, message board inquiries, employment contacts, etc. I think Jackie Chiles would agree that it's better to be vague and insinuate..than specific and litigate.
