I like loony but why is coach Peterson not being given an on field job.. he was promised when he was hired that he would have one soon.

Does this still leave 1 position open with the new added coach? English took Linguist's spot and new QB coach took Johnson's spot. If DJ is taking Sallach's spot or is he the 10th coach?

#UGA assistant D.J. Looney is expected to go to #MissState as an assistant to help with TEs and OT, source tells @FoxSports.

So this means hevesy will pretty much just coach interior lineman

I don't know, the term "help with" is sort of ambiguous.

Correct

I like it! I imagine Sallach will go to the office since Looney will be coaching TE's. That or Sallach is going somewhere else. Probably means that Peterson is staying in the same role I'm sure. I'm fine with that.

About damn time Dan made a move to try to compensate for Hevesy. Thanks Cohen!

Not saying you're wrong, but do we know this was promised to him? Don't get me wrong, I'm totally in favor of Peterson getting an on-field position its just that I've just read on message boards that people want this (me included).

Help with = recruit for.

This really has potential to help our O-line recruiting. I suspect today's recruits will find him a good point-of-contact for us. He's young, but his resume looks pretty good.

Alabama kid through HS, MSU grad, coached at EMCC, in Arky and in Georgia....all areas (not so much Arky) important to our recruiting efforts.

That rumor never made any sense to me. If you have someone that you want to be an on the field coach go ahead and make the move.

I agree with you Todd. I'm not saying that Peterson won't make a great on-field coach, but that doesn't necessarily mean Dan promised him this.

Let's focus on the good news that Dan is trying to address a weakness. This has nothing to do with Peterson. In fact, Peterson can probably help more in his current role.

I'm not unhappy with this hire. I've just seen posts here for a while that stated Peterson would join on-field staff most likely as te coach

You probably really believe Cohen had something to do with this. Can't give Dan credit for it, can you?

What is Petersen's background? Offensive or Defensive guy? What position would make the most sense for him to coach?

As much as I have said Hevesy should be replaced, this could compensate. Looney is supposed to be a great personality/recruiter AND he played for Hevesy and can testify that Hev is a good guy for whom to play.

So was he expected to be the 10th coach when it became available or was he set to get TEs and just got screwed over?

Who's negotiating Dan's extension on MSU's end again? Oh right- that would be John Cohen.

I give Dan credit for making the moves to get the extension for himself. Get a legit DC? Check. Finish strong in recruiting? Check. Making a move that takes one of his worst recruiters off the field and will probably help his worst recruiter at the same time? Double check.

You should be thankful too.

Hard to say. He will be on the field soon even if it's not this yr. thing about Brad is he is ALL DAWG!! He will not leave bc someone hurt his feelings.

Let's pump the breaks a little bit here. Looney replacing Sallach means that we still have a spot for the likely "10th coach". That could very well be Peterson. What his exact title would be if that happens? I don't know? Inside WR's or something like that? We still have to wait on it to be official which is a couple of months away (April?). If we hire someone now they could get burned on the off chance that it doesn't go through.

Great hire. We need a younger coach to relate to players and who players feel comfortable coming to with issues. Bj was this guy and now it it will be dj.

I know some will roll their eyes, but he's very active on twitter and social media. From the looks of it, he's all in on what he's doing. I think he's going to be a tremendous asset.

Why can't we make Hev an OL "analysis" or "consultant" who tells Looney how he would coach them up? That's what it seems Bama does.

Peterson was actually hired on with the promise that he would start out on the defensive side of the ball first. Mullen wanted him to learn the recruiting aspect of it.

Expect the 10th coach to be Grantham's brother.

Good deal. Like I said, I wasn't saying anybody was wrong. I just never heard anything other than what was on message boards. Thats why I asked. Either way, glad Peterson is on our staff and hope he gets his shot soon as an on-field coach.

That's funny, that's not how I was told it, but it doesn't matter anyway. He isn't on the field.

So, if 10th coach deal works out, we add grantham and that's it for staff changes?

Hmmm. Another issue addressed that Keenum brought up lastnoff season. Interesting that the CC breakup and/or changes have all occurred. Strick out, OL recruiting seemed to pick up, Dan got off his ass the last couple months recruiting and now Sallach replaced by someone who should improve one of the main things MK demanded, recruiting. Hmmm?????^

The 10th coach will be Chris Boniol in an official "special teams coach" role.
