View Full Version : One thing you have to credit Brady about

Is having the forethought and sense to not gouge his franchise over money. Brady has never been a top 10 paid QB in the NFL. He's allowed the Pats to make moves financially to keep a good OL in front of him as well as having a good defense year in and year out.

Winning brings endorsements- and that's where he gets the rest of his income. He even had his OL written into his visa endorsement contract.

That's how you get to 7 SB's

Yep, and I can't remember when the Patriots have ever had a player absorb a large % of a team's salary cap. Their business model appears to be to distribute evenly amongst the entire team so as to minimize weaknesses on the roster. Seattle is similar imo.

He also probably works harder than any other football player. His life revolves around football. He makes Peyton Manning look like Joe Namath. I don't know how he stays so dedicated when he has Giselle at home.

Aikman did that too. It was an annual occurrence for him to renegotiate his contract to make from for Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, Larry Allen, or somebody else. It pissed him off, but he did it. He won 3 SBs in 4 years for it and made more money than he can spend.

Did you see all the millions of people actively hating on Brady last night all over every social media outlet possible? He's got tons of motivation all around him all the time. Even today you still have haters everywhere refusing to admit he is the GOAT. The thirst to prove haters wrong might be the strongest motivator out there and Brady is stocked full for life.

That's correct. He did defer a bunch of it, so he may still be getting paid by the Cowboys, which does not count on their salary cap.

Great point! Brady's whole career has been about winning championships. He knew he was gonna get paid one way or another as long as he won. Championships are what he's about it's why he puts his body through what he does and the self discipline he has to do it.

Only 14 mil (not top 10) against the Pats' cap though, that's the important part.

To be fair, you can do that when your wife earns more than you do.

This is all well and good but it total bullshit. When your wife rakes in $40 million a year and is worth over $350 million, he doesn't have to be too concerned with his contract and being the top paid qb.

He was paid 29 million, so I'm not sure what the great sacrifice was here

I'm no expert but my guess is less guaranteed money and no gaudy contract for perception/security/ego/whatever reasons. As others have alluded to his set of circumstances are luxuries most, if not all, other players don't have, but if it were that easy to have an elite QB on the books for the relatively very small amount of cap space that the Pats do, every other team would do it.

The Patriots in general do not throw a lot of money at big free agent signings. They get guys off the scrap heap, like Hogan, Amendola, Blount, etc. The only true high dollar guys I can think of that they have are Gostkowski and Gronkowski. They let Talib walk, they let Wilfork walk.

They bring guys in that buy into their culture.

There are some college coaches who should approach their assistant pool the same way...although, to be fair, the Golden Flake endorsements may not pay as well as they used to***
