Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports.com wrote this column (http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/2017-national-signing-day-like-ohio-states-ad-i-say-no-thanks-ive-got-a-life/) about the excesses of National Signing Day and the theatre of the absurd that the recruiting process has become. While I rolled my eyes at the Ohio State athletic director complaining about all of the extra overhead that comes with college football these days, as well as his comments about the not-so-"good old days," I can't say I disagree with the gist of the column.

I get that college football success is about the Jimmys & Joes, but I get tired of the hype and usually stay off the board more during the lead up to NSD. Maybe it's the native Mississippian in me talking, but it seems like all of the swag-copters (http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/texas-a-m-aggies-sumlin-swag-copter-090315), twitter-stalking, and other announcement stunts (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-signing-day-shenanigans-20160203-story.html) make some of these guys too big for their britches. Just look at the work ethic of some of TSUN's mythic 2013 class for example.

Having said all that, I won't feel bad if some of these high profile guys put on an M-State cap and they get their photo in their hometown paper. I'm just not interested in teenagers repelling down from the roof of the gym to unfurl a giant M-State flag or some other nonsense being televised live on ESPN. Old guy rant over. Hail State!

I feel like this board does a pretty good job of talking about recruiting without getting overly caught up in it. Sure, you see people overreact one way or the other from time to time, but for the most part, I think there's a pretty healthy understanding here that it's fun to talk about recruiting, and it's certainly important, but we won't know how good any of these players are for at least another couple years.
