It's just how Mullen recruits. He tries to find players that may not be the four or five star gem but he finds guys that want to work hard and he develops them. He is not a guy who puts a priority on recruiting players that are rated highly by the recruiting services. This is why I really don't follow football recruiting because odds are good you will be disappointed with the February's but you really can't argue with the results on the field.

Yep, doesn't mean we have to accept 5-7 seasons, but it does mean we shouldn't have total meltdowns when a 3-star decides to go out of state following the guy who recruited him...

You did it again, Cadaver! Excellent post and the most accurate description I've seen of our program yet! I know people want to win natty's and stuff(me too) but heck after being a State fan for all 52 years of my life, the last 8 have been some of the most enjoyable. Does it mean we should be satisfied and stop trying to get any better? No but it does mean we should be enjoying the fact of where we are now from where we came from. Thanks for bringing a little rationale to the board, Cadaver!

Many of us are just pointing out that it's the SOS with Mullen and problems never get fixed.

Lack of OL recruiting
We only have 2 QB's for next year- 1 a true freshman. Fitz is going to get beat up early next year while we get our new OL situated.
Back to average at best WR's now that Ross and Wilson are gone.

We are cyclical because we can't sustain anything. We can't put 3 solid classes together or consistently recruit some good OL players. If we recruited better on the OL- we wouldn't down cycle. A good OL in 2016 and we don't lose to USA or BYU. 7-5 in a down year is the sign of a much better program

I agree with this. I will argue that having a competent o line coach could help a good bit though.

That's true. We aren't far from having winning down seasons, but it's gonna take a little more effort signing up more of the kids that initially favor us. We're decent at getting in the door with most it seems, but we're missing the persistency to keep them till signing day.
