With the talent Petrino puts on D and his skills coaching, you could argue it is a perfect match in a strictly scientific way.

LOL at this article.

"The arrangement has been in the works for some time, sources told FootballScoop, but Louisville wanted to wait until current defensive coordinator Todd Grantham found new employment."

Petrino don't need no stinking defense.
But he's getting one.

And some people wanted Petrino to be our next coach? If he really hires Sirmon... Well watch, they will have the 5th best defense in the nation next year in true MSU fasion.

From Football Scoop's story making it sound like Sirmon is an upgrade. 17 those guys

"Louisville finished eighth nationally in yards per play allowed and 31st in scoring defense en route to a 9-4 campaign in 2016.
Sirmon’s Mississippi State defense finished 103rd nationally in yards per play allowed in 2016 after ranking 44th in ’15."

Sounds like someone is working overtime to take some shine off a HR hire by MSU. Louisville can have Sirmon all day every day if they want him.

I'm calling BS on this until someone besides footballscoop reports it. Literally makes no sense.

Who gives a shat? In October, when the results begin to show, nobody is going to remember what football scoop said on Jan. 11

We know who got the better end on the deal if this is proven so, and I promise you they do too.

I don't care where Sirmon ends up regardless. Just saying that we should confirm Sirmon to Louisville through an actual legit source before commenting on it. All common sense and logic points to this not being true.

Twitter confirmed it. Thats really weird cant imagine why Lville would swap DCs with us

Most fan conspiracy theories are stupid. But this one is obviously true. Louisville didn't want Sirmon over Grantham, that is stupid.

Yea I'm wondering too ... something ain't adding up. I don't consider Petrino to be an idiot as far as being a CFB coach goes. In fact far from it. I can see Richt doing something not too smart with his staff, but I don't see Petrino setting himself back any.

I think Sirmon could succeed at UL since the 3-4 won't be completely foreign to them and it will fit his personnel.

Ditto for Grantham, obviously. But there's no way you can spin this as Louisville upgrading at D.C. and us getting their castoff.

UL is getting Ward (formerly Spurrier's DC) as the DB coach. Maybe there is going to be a co-DC environment there?

Really Clark?

Not necessarily. It's the true 2-gap 3-4 that has the demanding personnel requirements; if I've heard correctly Grantham has run the 1-gap since he arrived at Louisville.

1. Scott Roussel - Owner of Football Scoop - Ole Miss Grad - friend of the Mannings
2. Pete Roussel - Owner of Coaching Search - Ole Miss Grad - brother of Scott - friend of Mannings
Both Ole Miss grads who hate Mississippi State and have routinely posted false info about us...including circulating rumors about Miss State coach Dan Mullen looking to leave, just around the time recruiting is critical.

You can count on them to either lie, or distort the facts when it comes to things related to MSU. I guarantee you the Sirmon move to Louisville was not a done deal, waiting for Grantham to get a job before it was announced.

All the talk was strictly of Sirmon to Colorado UNTIL the Grantham to MSU rumors start up. Which tells me that Sirmon to UL didn't become a thing until they already knew that Grantham was heading to MSU. And that is the only thing that makes sense. Petrino is not a total nutjob. You don't trade a veteran proven DC with Grantham's track record for a greenhorn DC with one year under his belt where that one year was a train wreck statistically.

Wouldn't surprise me if the schools did eventually collude a bit to offset the negative effect of buyouts. Wouldn't be a critical factor, but maybe something that made it a little easier?

It will be interesting to see how Sirmon gets along with hot-headed Petrino.
