The only position on our staff where I don't care if you can recruit is defensive coordinator. But it's a nice bonus that he can recruit because I assume he will be in charge of LB's.

Would be one of the best "on paper" hires of the Mullen era.

I realize he has some faults & flaws in the past, but this guy is a real deal DC that has coached big time teams in big time games.

All things considered, I believe this is one of the greatest combinations of high ceiling/high floor hires we could have possibly made. We have been able to make a higher ceiling hire, but I doubt that hire would come with this high of a floor

We may add an extra defensive coach and Mullen will go back to coaching QB's full-time. Little Grantham also has ST coaching experience.

waiting to see how this shakes out. Lots of options now.

Grantham should give Mullen peace of mind with the D- so he can ease up on the micromanaging. That would allow Mullen to go back to coaching QB's full-time and stop roaming around so much at practice. Sallach coaches TE's- so until something changes there- cant say. Pete was supposed to become an on-field coach at some point.

Welp, we are probably hiring the best 3-4 guy that we could possibly get. We have an influx of Juco talent. Mullen is going to let him do his thing. We should expect at least a Top 50 defense next year and that would be a huge jump. Also, we've got an NFL guy in Grantham and Baker plus T-buck's NFL career. Should be easy to sell in recruiting. Just need to hire 2 more recruiting specialists and I will be content with our staff.

If Linquist leaves, I wouldn't be surprised if Austin takes his spot. And I assume there is still a possibility that Peterson replaces Sallach. That would upgrade our recruiting and make them even more effective as recruiters because then they could do in homes and recruit more for us.

Also as far as our special teams goes- Boniol has NFL experience as well.

Grantham was the DC of the Cleveland Browns for 3 years.

Any Xs & Os concerns you may have are not valid. This guy is LEGIT.

Additionally, I love the idea of Grantham being a "Head Coach of the Defense"

This is what Clemson did with Venables, Spurrier with Stoops & Strong, Les Myles with Chavis, so on & so forth.

Would allow Mullen to focus on offense & game management.

Can't tell you how excited I am about the stability of this.

Dan has always let his defensive coordinators run the defense despite what some have said. I understand that some are using this potential hiring as confirmation bias about Dan dictating the defense, but the only thing Dan has ever dictated defensively is the desire to not give up the big play.

I heard Gene Stalling say this on the radio this AM, and it fits here. It's the assistant coach's job to please the head coach, not the head coach's job to please the assistants. Dan is hard on his assistant coaches.

To clarify one point. I wasn't calling Keenum a liar. And I agreed partially with a few things you alluded to. But your overall points were not truthful. It wasn't nearly the way you describe and Keenum was NEVER (and this is straight from him) pushing Stricklin out. What was ridiculous is you still think he did push out Stricklin but yet let Strick and others force his hand about hiring Cohen. There was an extreme amount of backdoor politics going on with all of that. So To be clear. Either your information that was told to you was extremely stretched or you made a bunch of it up. And THAT is from MANY in the know and directly from the official players at the university. But keep on with the false information.
