Targeting can only be helmet to helmet and it is specified in the rule book that way, as it should be. They got Foster on his 2nd one after warning him verbally the first time.

msstate7
01-09-2017, 10:59 PM
Targeting can only be helmet to helmet and it is specified in the rule book that way, as it should be. They got Foster on his 2nd one after warning him verbally the first time.

No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent (See Note 2 below) with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI)

Note 1: "Targeting" means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. Some indicators of targeting include but are not limited to:

Launch?a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet

...

Pretty much sums up both of those hits

Because SEC refs would penalize us for it 10 out of 10 times. Especially if it was done against Bama.

Dare the officials to call it on the last play. They didn't call it earlier and I would have called the same play. However if that had gone against us I'd be pissed for the rest of my life. The outside wr was clearly not even trying to run a route, but was just a bulldozer

Again, no holding calls were called all game on either side. The officials let them play.

Not a chance. I actually personally know Dabo. He's a good guy who literally came from nothing and gives a lot back. Nothing like Freeze.

Hell they had 2 guys should've been ejected for targeting if I recall correctly. They were head hunting early in the game. Same way they did in '09 against Colt McCoy.

Bama didn't get that defensive TD in this game. They depended on those all year to finish opponents. Also, the lucky bounces started waning after halftime....i.e. Punt hits and parallels the end zone on the 1 yard line.

HSVDawg

Yep, they purposely cheated to get the win,

Just like Bama DB's purposely cheat on every passing play by holding, grabbing, and shoving WR's all the way down the field in an effort to normalize pass interference and daring the officials to call it. Pushing the envelope and seeing what you can get away with is part of the game. Dabo does it on offense, Saban does it on defense. Turnabout is fair play.

Not defending Bama but a lot of that contact I saw was Clemson receivers either pushing off or running pics on every pass play. There were a LOT of no calls on plays that Dabo went ape over that were no calls for that reason.
