Must win this early in the season? It's arguable to me, but I'd say it's a "must play well" game for us. If we tank again, might be a brutal season down the stretch.

With such a young team, we really need this game bc at Arkansas, aTm, Kentucky, and at Tennessee will be a very tough stretch. Lose today and I think we're 0-6 starting the sec unless aTm can't get it together

Kentucky is the only guaranteed lose there, Arkansas, aTm and Tennessee suck just like us but I agree that we really need a win today vs a bad LSU team.

At Arkansas is gonna be really tough. aTm's Tyler Davis will absolutely murder us. I may be giving Tennessee too much credit.

I may be giving Tennessee too much credit.

Tennessee is almost as young as us and not as talented. They've played a vastly harder non-conference schedule so far so record isn't an accurate comparison, but I think they're as beatable, if not more, than LSU.

This ^^. This is also why the Alabama loss was so shameful because that was an early opportunity to get an SEC win. Lose today and you are looking at best 1-5

The way we let Bama beat us down the court so often was what was really discouraging to me. We played with half ass effort and were still in the game. It's a mental and maturity thing with this team

I look at it from a home/road perspective. We already lost a home game, & we know UK will make it 2. So we gotta make those 2 up somewhere if we want to try & find a way to .500 (which I know is unlikely). Gotta think LSU is one of our few most winnable road games, so we need to get this one.

Meh, if we play like we did against Alabama I could see a 2-8 start. If we start to learn and play hard, get back on defense instead of loafing back like we did most of the time against Alabama, and be patient on the offensive end, we will win more then we lose. The SEC is a terrible conference. I am sitting here watching an unwatchable shitty game between UGA and Missouri. Missouri is a shit team. That said, if we can shut Blakeney down and someone else step up for us besides Q we will win the LSU game easily.

MarketingBully
01-07-2017, 01:45 PM
If you shut down either Frazier or Maten for UGA, you can beat them. You don't have to shut both of them down. You take those two off of UGA and they are shit.

Liverpooldawg

This will apply to every game we play: if the threes fall we might have a chance. If they don't we probably don't have a chance.

MarketingBully
01-07-2017, 01:48 PM
We will need Stapleton and Q to harass Blakeney all day today. Q just needs to play straight up D and not take those chances he has taken every game. If he can learn that, our defense will improve immensely. The only time Alabama was able to get to the basket in our defensive half court game was when Q took those chances missed and allowed them to get to the basket.

With our combination of youth and talent, every SEC game we play (sans UK) is winnable- and every game is loseable. Just gotta roll with it and watch this young team grow up. The league is not good and 17 of our 18 are games we could win- and also games we could lose.

The only way that I am remotely concerned about the program is if we are not any better at the end of the season than we are now... and I think that scenario is highly unlikely.

When Kegler starts playing to his potential and gets his ass inside the 3 point line...we'll start winning more. He needs to start playing like Mario Kegler, instead of Kodi Augustus. He has the ability to take over games...once he realizes that, we'll take off. Imo

Won't be happening anytime soon unfortunately. Kegler has all the tools except the most important one upstairs. He plays passive basketball and constantly settles for contested 3's. He's down to 33% on the year for 3's and trending down not up. Does Kegler have a dunk this year yet? Imagine being that big and that athletic and never even trying to dunk the ball? Mind boggling.

Yea he's special. If we can't sell out the Hump with Peters and Nick Spoon making highlight reel plays over and over we need to blow it up and play in the Tin Gym.

A new starting lineup and a lot of new combo's. Just like a lot of people in this thread lost their mind after Bama, don't get carried away by 1 half vs LSU. They are really bad. Beat USM by only 17 points.

It was obvious he needed to be starting, but it's SO refreshing to have a coach who will make that move of benching a senior for the clearly more talented guy. I'm glad Ready accepted his role off the bench. And I'm glad we have a coach who can make that move relative early in the season.

It's a result of young players starting to get it. I think having Ado in practice has definitely helped Herard's development in the post. It was only a matter of time before the light came on for Eli. This is the type of basketball Howland is wanting. As a young team, we are finally starting to execute it. Just takes time for young kids to gel together. Easily our best half of basketball. I just want us to come out in the second half with the same intensity. If we do that, we win this game by 20+.

Who said I didn't. AGAIN, the effort was much better. I think I'll wait a bit before getting totally carried away like you are. We had a really good game today. It's by far the best I've seen them play. The fact still remains that we shot 50% behind the arc. Most teams that do that are going to win. If we beat a decent team while shooting a below normal three % THEN I'll start to get excited.

My gosh. You still don't believe we are talented do you?

Reath ended up as their top scorer. Blakeney had 17 but he scored most of that late with their run. Yep, you contain Blakeney you beat LSU.

we didnt just control Blakeney- we got in their ass on the perimeter and none of them could hit. They we 3/15 at one point in the game from 3- we just didnt let them get into a rhythm at all

Youth takes time. This bunch will be really good one day. When you have as many freshman we have, it's a big learning curve.

Today was a good step up.

Agreed. We are a young but very talented team.
