Whether you are a band geek, a casual football fan, or a hard core X's & O's guy - the marching bands are a part of college football.

Way back in the day, the Famous Maroon Band only went to one away game per year. Bigger schools did the same. Money in college football wasn't so big and I think Sherrill was only getting paid $250-300k. I am sure it is quite expensive to haul a 300 member marching band across the country and pay their stipends.

Fast forward to 2013 and our athletic budget has quadrupled which means.....the Famous Maroon Band still goes to just one away game per year (I think...).

The FMB certainly didn't go to the OSU game, which was a cyring shame. OSU's band didn't go either. Heck, OSU had maybe 15 pieces in the band they brought to Houston. I mean come on this was a week one bowl game. It had the budget of a bowl game.

The band are getting gyped. And so are the fans. We are swimming in money - take the damn bands on the road!

I'm not sure if it was the entire band or not, but we had a lot bigger band there than OSU did.

Need to pay the assistants more before we start making sure the band is there.

OUR band was in Houston, and it was triple the size of the band OSU brought.

We has probably 30% of our band in Houston. And they didn't march.

Unless something's changed since I graduated from the FMB in 2010, a pep band goes to every road game and the full band goes to Ole Miss. The money simply isn't there to do more, but if it was, the band would do more full band trips and bigger pep bands.

If you want the band to have more money, send them a check.

Do we just bitch about everything? Good lord.

Do you really need to see the Beatles or the patriotic show on the road? You have 7 opportunities to see them at DWS.

Why bitch about this.

The full band goes to Ole Miss every other year, and when we host Ole Miss, the full band goes to one away game. Other away games, a sizable pep band makes the trip. If we make a bowl, the full band makes the trip and is there for 4-5 days.

That's fine by me, and you'd be surprised that its more than fine by the band members. A lot of band members at MSU are only in band to get out of state tuition waived, or pick up a little extra scholarship money. The ones that want to go to the away games go.

Believe it or not a big issue as far as bringing the band is tickets. The teams that we play don't want to give the band 300+ seats in the visitiors section when they can sell them to fans. Plus, they don't want our band to be real loud if they can help it.

Hate for my first post to be negative, but our band's performance at the OSU game was almost as bad as the offense. I don't think the band should be practicing their halftime performance during the game. Maybe we should allow the person that selects the playlist for the Jumbtron to select the band's playlist. My wife and I thought OSU's band (1/3 of FMB at the game) did a much better job keeping the fans in the game and I'm not talking about the 2nd half.

I like that the band is playing some Journey music.

All night.

Every night.

I'm not going to bust you because music is about matter of opinion. But if it was a band contest between the two of us, MSU would have won. I would have rather had things the other way around though.

And the game does affect the way the band plays a little bit. It's a WHOLE lot more fun to play when the team is winning. If the team is getting their ass kicked, it sucks. Even worse, when you are in the band- unlike the players- who have to mingle amongst the victorious opposing fans. And since you are dressed up like a Beatles member in Maroon and White, for some God unknown reason these fans seem to think that you had something to do with the game and they like to talk smack with the band. You would be shocked at what people do to the opposing band. Pee on the freaking team bus, cuss you out, flip you off- like we actually had something to do with the game. There's a reason why they have police escorts nowadays.

I go to some road games as a fan and honestly haven't had any problems.

The FMB brought a fraction of the whole band and OSU brought like 3 rows of people.
