This is why Mich only signed a 1 year deal.

Talent wise, Mitch should have gotten about 8-10 mil per year, but, due to a .720 OPS last year at 1B, his value was dramatically lessened. If Mitch can replicate his 2015 season and post an .800+ OPS, he'll likely get a multi year deal at around 8 mil per next season.

After you get over the fact that the Red Sox exchanged David Ortiz for Mitch Moreland, the price & contract length are both huge wins for the Red Sox. The Red Sox bought low on a player that posted a 2.3 WAR in 2015, which is worth about 14 million dollars, & got that player for a bargain. If the Red Sox get 2 WAR from Mitch, it's a huge bargain. If they get last year's Mitch, then his gold glove & 22 HRs are worth about what they paid for him.
