Crime Dog is a hell of a recruiter. That's why he has been given honorary titles like "Co-DC" and "Recruiting Coordinator". He gets thrown a bone and gets a raise with a new title to recruit. If a guy has been that valued as a recruiter and has never coordinated his own defense in 26 years, major red flags.

You can say what you want about Dave Wommack as a recruiter but the guy had been a DC since 1985. He was the definition of an X's and O's guy who I greatly underestimated when Freeze brought him over. in 2014 he coached Ole Miss to the #1 defense in America. The guy knew what he was doing. Now we get to last year where the talent dipped but Dave didn't forget how to coach.

-120th rushing defense
-91st first downs allowed
-97th sacks
-87 INTs
-93rd passes defended
-86th opponent 3rd down conversion

So that defense which was arguably the worst in college football is going to replace an X's and O's schemer like Dave Wommack with a guy who has never been a coordinator in 26 years of coaching AND put in a new scheme? Holy mother that is an impossible task and odds for Crime Dog.

Not that my input matters at all, because it doesn't, but Kane Wommack would been an infinitely better hire than Crime Dog for DC. Best case scenario would be Kane as DC and Crime Dog as DB, Co-DC. Considering everything they are dealing with, that is the home run scenario.

I think Freeze is just telling people that to build momentum & try to get back in the game with Avery. Then, after signing day, he'll just say that it didn't work out & they are going with someone else.

If this isn't the case, then why hasn't McGriff been hired yet? What is keeping OM from announcing this right now?

Perhaps my theory in crazy & stupid, but until OM actually hires McGriff, it's something to think about

Looks like ever OM thought McGriff was a terrible idea. That or they found out it wouldn't effect Avery. In which case, I'd gladly trade Avery for the likely hood of putting 55 points on OM again if McGriff was their DC

Sorry Beast but OM's defensive success was more on Tom Allen than Dave Wommack. After Allen left that defense went downhill pretty quick.

We know how well they rehabbed the Kimdechie brothers, Kelly, etc. so why not elevate and expand their "healing" touch to coaches that need an image makeover...
