Would we still need others to lose to get a bowl?

ULL has no shot, due to APR

Bonner said the ULL is ineligible due to APR issues. I haven't heard that anywhere else, but if that's true, we're definitely in.

If that's false, it's guaranteed that we'll at least be tied with Texas for the last spot, with Hawaii, South Alabama, and ULL still at 5-6 with 1 more to play.

Other than the extra practice for young players, I really don't think a 5-7 team should get a bowl. There are too many bowls, it cheapens them, IMO.

Agree, but we are an improving football team that needs the extra practice.

Remember early enrollees can practice with the team during bowl prep & with all the new JUCO guy coming in, that's HUGE. Also gives Fitz more time to work with 2017 receivers

Watched the end of their game and the announcers said they could still get bowl eligible. Just read an article that said they avoided a bowl ban.

I agree...but want it badly for the extra practice...and to "stick it" even more to UNM. Won't it be fun to rub their noses in it....that with the same record our kids get a bowl over them because ours are smarter.

Well the system is what it is. No reason why we shouldn't want to take advantage of it should the opportunity present itself, regardless of what your macro view is about too many bowls.

Probably Independence, but if not, it could be anywhere - St. Petersburg, Cactus, Quick Lane (Detroit), Heart of Dallas, Las Vegas, etc.

Just saw where David Murray said Liberty and Indy reps met with Mullen and Cohen after the game today.

Doesn't seem right that a program just busted for academic fraud could get a bowl based on APR over us.

It would be that they are 6-6. Their APR is 950 while our's is 971.

I listened to the post game and they said Mullen pulled some of the bowl reps aside and told them we had some pretty smart, graduating athletes. Thought it was funny, but made a point.

Yes, but if we get in it will be in an SEC Bowl tie-in.

It doesn't because Vandy was already 5-7 with an elite APR.

Ah..I see. Thanks for clearing that up for me. They still have to beat ULM to get to 6-6, but ULM is really, really bad.

I think but could be wrong the Independence and Birmingham bowls will have to take 6-6 Vanderbilt and South Carolina, meaning we'd just go wherever there's a spot, but if Vanderbilt were 5-7, the Independence Bowl could take us and send Vandy wherever.

Gotcha. Well it looks like Vandy is about to upset Tenn and destroy their Sugar Bowl hopes as well.

Doesn't matter. They were going to a bowl game regardless if they had 5 or 6 wins. Them winning doesn't effect us.

You know that more State fans would go to a Liberty or Indy Bowl than Texas fans. They will not follow that team this year.

Here's a link to a story with the rule: http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/16617021/ncaa-division-council-no-5-7-teams-bowls-6-6-teams-picked

If two or more 5-7 teams have a tie in the multiyear APR, then the highest APR for the most recent single year will break the tie. This process will continue until all the bowl slots are filled.

I would treat a bowl bid at 5-7 the same as I would treat a totally undeserved and unexpected gift. We wouldn't deserve it but the unexpected practice for the young players would be a gift from Santa Claus. If we get it embrace it and run with it!

Yeah but he doesn't have his staff at all together and odds are good they get shit kicked. Would be stupid form them to go to a bowl. But to each their own. What's the point in extra practices if the offense you install won't be what you use the next year. They should just end their season. They got shit kicked a lot and will get shit kicked in their bowl.
