Wish we'd bring this guy back and get back to the Defense's we had under Sherrill.

Won't work against today's offenses.

We'd get torched. Perhaps not as bad as today, but the that defensive scheme wouldn't survive spread offenses

I do, however, wish we'd take the "Mentality" of Joe Lee's defenses & apply it to today's schemes. We were so much more physical back then.

Just wish we could get the sec back to the level it was when Sherrill was here. During JS's 13 years, the sec won 3 titles and only 1 was by a west school. During mullen's tenure, the sec west has won the natty all but 2 years. Those 2 years, the sec west had a team lose in the championship game and the other in a playoff game. Oh and one of those championship years ('11), bama beat lsu for the title.

No thanks, but give me an aggressive, attacking 4-2-5 please.

People figured Joe Lee out. That's why he couldn't get DC jobs at big schools anymore. I think last DC job he had was at New Mexico or New Mexico State

I'd just love to have Croom's defense today.

That's all though. Just the defense.

Joe Lee’s defense may or may not work in today’s game- although I’m honestly not totally sold it wouldn’t- it’s the 3-3-5 basically.

Regardless, I do think that his basic tenants of putting pressure on the QB, disguising coverages and blitz packages, and trying to confuse the QB would still work even against today’s offenses. It doesn’t have to be the exact same scheme as Joe Lee to have those qualities. I’d certainly rather watch that than this bend and break BS.

JL's D would get torched today. Hell, it got torched in 2001

He couldnt adapt vs Spread offenses

JL's D depended on having two NFL type (Smoot, Bean) corners who could live on the island, shut the receivers down and turn the rest of the D loose. It didn't work his last couple of State years as we no longer had that type DB talent.

I think that's sort of a misnomer. It didn't work because we couldn't get a pass rush like we did in 1996-2000 as well.

The defense was based on cover corners and defensive lineman that demanded double teams. This is what freed the dog safeties on the blitzes. Once the DL talent dropped off teams could max protect and no corner can cover all day. We also had very little free safety help

Our players are to soft to run that defense also. I'd give anything to have Cooper, Smoot, pig, haggan back

I miss Joe Lee's attacking 3-5-3 scheme that was blitz heavy but today's offenses would destroy it .I don't know what the hell our scheme was today.......The Matador?

Cooper, Pig, Smoot, Robert Bean, Haggan, Eugene the Machine, Smoot, ought to be old enough to have kids or even maybe grandkids playing. Maybe we should check it out.
