Joe Girardi finished playing MLB and then became a bench coach for 2 years before becoming the Marlins Manager. After 2 years at Miami, he was the Yankees manager. It isn't like Canny was selling used cars and just decided to get back into baseball. It makes me nervous because he has never been the man in charge before but apparently a lot of people see something.
I personally would have went after most of the big names first but at least the guy is from the drivable area and is well thought of. I trust Cohen with this hire more than if Strickland had made it.
