So far only 3 people have shown interest. I am a little disappointed not more, but guess I should have known better than try to do it here.

So could you provide a little more info? Like how much money you need per meal. And a link to donate?

No, Stansbury first thought it might be, but checked and it is not. Howland is all for it , so he has no reservations about it.

Meaning I didn't feel free on being able to list the details and costs involved.

But am getting plenty of interest in being involved, so its working out very well.

I'm still trying to figure out how this would not be an impermissible benefit. Fans (boosters) supplying cost-free "goods or services" to a student based on his status as an athlete is a huge no-no.

I'm satisfied its not according to the coaches. But you are welcome to check it out. If you find out different , we would certainly want to know.

Are you interested in participating if its permissible?

Just to be double sure I emailed the office and Michael had double checked with compliance and they said as long as it didn't involve recruits it was fine.

Looked for some info on this subject and found this...

"NCAA rules PERMIT an Athletics Representative to invite student-athletes into their home for an occasional or special occasion meal on an infrequent basis provided you receive approval from the Compliance Office. You may NOT provide meals to student-athletes in restaurant facilities or provide free meals to parents at any time."

I think I made a mistake putting this out so early, since we are not starting it until the SEC games start in January. We got enough interest to do it, and I will be glad to give the details to anyone else interested in participating but I'm gonna wait until closer to time to start locking down dates and other details.

There are only 5 home Saturday games this year so really we only need 15 people and gives everyone a chance to see a little basketball and get fired up.

Plus I really recommend that those that can get a couple of buddies to go in with you it will worth the effort to enlist them.

Again, anyone that has not requested thru pm for more information please do so now, and I will provide along with my email address and phone number.

there is a big difference in a RECRUIT and a player enrolled in the University already. This is nothing more than feeding baseball players in the left field lounge after ballgames. Nobody has ever worried about that

I am in Shannondawg. I emailed you probably barely and it is perfectly legal and a good way to meet the players and coaches. Hope others do it too!

The rules apply to BOTH enrolled student-athletes and recruits. There are a lot of rules on the books that are not aggressively enforced but they are still violations. A planned steak dinner with basketball players is a higher profile event than a random hot dog off a grill and the food is given to the opposing team as much as our own baseball players. Sure, this may be much ado about nothing, but with UM about to be bitch slapped their network will be on the lookout for any missteps by us.
