Several had mentioned on here that we look slow and weak out on the field. I may remember incorrectly but didn't we hire an assistant that was already in the system to fill that role of strength and conditioning coach this year? Could that be part of the problem? We hired another first timer in our strength and conditioning coach.

Ask anyone and they will tell you that position may be the most important spot on any team and BDD hired a rookie. Ask the players, they will tell you the workouts are great. That means we ain't doing it right. Compare the Memphis team with MSU. They look like a team, they are physical and will hit you. We play with finesse and are not physical at all. It's why we can't tackle well. Dan's refusal to hire a Special Teams coach is also something that drives us insane. With that said, don't look for any of this to change until BDD can find another job.

We haven't had a physical football team, since Nickoe Whitley graduated. We've become more and more finesse each year.

Did you just completely forget the 2014 team?

I agree that we weren't physical last year And of course this year. I think the OP could be on to something with the strength coach. We've looked slow, weak and out of shape since the start this year.

Uh, we did hire a special team coach. He kicked in the NFL.

He kicked in the NFL? Did he coach in the NFL? Did he coach in college? Did he coach in any college? Did he coach in high school? Does he have a background of recruiting these Kicking Combines they have every summer? Does he know how to line up a receiving team? Does he know how to line up a kicking team? M. Dear is returning kickoffs, so does he understand that Dear is one Taco short of 240 lbs?

The way that 2014 ended getting our shit pushed in by OM and Ga Tech, yeah we were not a very physical team by years end.

I wish y'all would go look at what happened to UF right after Tebow. Bad recruiting at OL and recruiting of passing QB's led away from the power running spread and UF collapsed. Caused Urban to get a heart condition.

I would be willing to bet that the S&C coach is a member of the #CCB ...
When is the last time anyone saw or heard a tweet from players about the SC coach?
That's all the guys did when Bails was here..

Many times promoting from within on coaching staffs doesn't work due to the dynamics of what makes a good staff a good staff.

On most good staffs, the leader is a hard ass (bad cop) & the assistants are softer (good cop). This chemistry creates an excellent balance where the players are somewhat intimidated by the head coach but also have the support from the assistant coaches to work through their problems & feel loved.

The problem with promoting an assistant to be the leader is that assistant is often times the "Good cop" & the players love him, but the dynamic between the coach & players isn't optimal for pushing the envelop of success. Additionally, in reaction to this, many times the newly promoted assistant will change his personality into being more of a hard ass (bad cop) & then the players don't see him as genuine & view his new personality as fake & an act. It's OK to hire assistants as leaders, but typically they need to come from another program so that the players have no prior knowledge of his "good cop" personality.

The only circumstance where it can be a good idea to promote from within is if the assistant already has a "bad cop" personality the players respect & somehow that combination works with the current head coach.
