It's a bye week but we still have a solid football lineup. I'm sure I'll cook something Saturday night. No idea yet

No idea on the food part, but hoping to get in a tree tomorrow and stick a deer. I have just enough time to get 1 or 2 hunts in before heading back on a work trip.

Have not gotten to the menu, hunting or fishing yet; but I did mange to find a couple dusty whiskeys in the wild today. Stopped at a store I drive by all the time and have never visited, as it is not in a great part of town. Came away with three of these babies:

Have not put together a bourbon edition in a while - that is about to change.

I've noticed something this week that I haven't seen in a few years. The other day, I was in the back yard, and just noticed loads of fish in the river...in schools...hanging out, striking sometimes. I looked more closely and I'm pretty sure these are Buffalo. I've seen this "buffalo run" I think 5 years ago. I don't think they do this every year. Anyone else experience this?

The dog had a few shots to get at the Vet School, so when I picked her up at lunch I just came home. I put the boat in and tried to catch some of these jokers. I threw out 2 cans of corn, tried the cast net (they can see that coming), and floated some corn under a cork. When I get out of the stand in the morning I'm getting back in the boat with my .22 .

Looking forward to that bourbon edition coming. I went to 4 stores looking for either small batch dickel or weller 12. Came up empty but got a good lead in a month. I went with my current favorite drinking spirit, Jameson Caskmates. Having a gentleman jack on the rocks for a nightcap.

Full scale prep for Colorado second rifle season. Sealed the seams on my tent, and am burning in the stove today. Stove + tent is less than 5 lbs.

The memorial today turned into a all day beer drinking affair. No cool food but plenty of white cans

That looks like a pretty sweet setup, Sapper. How far do you expect to pack in?

Our plan is to set up about 2 miles in. We are going to spend two days ahead of the season scouting, then move our camp close to where we locate any elk....hopefully not having to hike any more than a mile to the first hunt spot each morning.

For Sunday dinner I made Portuguese "caldo verde" (i.e., green soup), which happens to be a huge thing in New England, considering the Azorean population.

It's got linquica sausage (essentially the Port. version of andouille), white beans, potatoes, and kale. Super simple, but way delicious. Combined with some crusty bread, spicy zin wine, and watching Dak slang it, and you've got a good evening.
