Montravious Richardson, and Westover High (2-2) are coming off a very disappointing 21-6 loss against Americus-Sumter.

I wasn?t paying attention to dates on the schedule and missed the fact that Westover played Carver in Columbus last night!!

Westover won a thriller 23-20 on a last minute TD. Game article can be found here: http://www.albanyherald.com/sports/westover-pulls-off-win-in-thriller/article_f88869dc-94c7-5fae-8e94-099eee720bf2.html It was a wild one with Westover jumping out 16-0, then giving up 20 unanswered before fighting for their last score and the victory. They are now 3-2.

This was big win for Westover that puts them at 1-0 in region play. The Carver Tigers have been a powerhouse team over the past 10 years ? a span that includes 8 region titles and State Title in 2007. Three Tigers from these years have made the league ? most notably the infamous Isaiah Crowell. They have produced a good bit of D1 talent of late including Khan & Jawon Pass (Louisville, recruited by MSU), Javontay Smith (East Carolina), Mekhi Brown (OLB Alabama), and our former TE Artimus Samuel.

Carver has struggled a bit under new coach Dre'Mail King, and now 2-3 coming off the loss to Westover. King may be familiar to some of you. The Columbus Ledger-Inquirer writes: "As a senior at Central-Tuscaloosa in 2003, King was a star athlete with an offer to play football at Alabama. How he had designs of winning national titles and playing one day in the NFL. How all of those goals were abruptly thrown off course when he tried to intervene in an altercation between his brother and his mom, and ended up with a bullet in his abdomen. In the blink of an eye, everything he had hoped for was suddenly gone. And yet, he persevered through it, survived the wound and resumed his work toward a career in football. He walked on at Mississippi State, but never received a scholarship offer. He transferred to and had an outstanding career at Stillman College."

Anyway, congrats to Montravious and the Patriots on a great win.
