There was no personal attacks on other posters. Everyone disagreed on stuff which is ok but now there are some hash stuff said to each other. That was the part of Six Pack I did not like, "the personal attacks". This board is becoming much like that one.

We eat our own, we don't know any better. Somebody gives Ole Miss fans a rope, they all grab one end and start pulling. You give M- State fans a rope and we separate it into individual strands, tie a knot in the middle, and see how many different directions we can pull it in.

Well just my opinion but, outside of a couple of years with Jackie, we have never known success in football prior to Mullen's arrival. We just don't know how to handle winning nor what to do to sustain it. Age of the fan has a lot to do with it also, the fifty something has an entirely different view of State athletics than a twenty something and sometimes those views clash. I feel that most of us that attended MSU or are just fans of the school did so because the engineering and technical aspect that is the backbone of our university represents our personality. We try to analyze every detail and dissect every aspect instead of just looking at some pie in the sky ending that the liberal arts bastion up north is chasing.

It's a massive inferiority complex that is part of MSU Sports Induced PTSD. We have come to expect failure. So in order to prevent failure we pick apart successful coaches and players to justify our belief that we will fail. It then gets whipped up into a froth of discontent that eventually makes its way up from the fringe to the mainstream. It then induces panic at the first sign of not having a good season - or by being let down during a successful season that did not result in the ultimate championship. With so many engineers in our base the natural progression is to to try to fix what is broken - even if it isn't broken. This leads to the general belief that what isn't broken actually can't be fixed, so we have to blow it up and start over from scratch to fix the over engineering of the fix that wasn't needed in the first place.

(sorry if I'm picking on Engineers, but I just dealt with a stupid AU dirt mover who can't figure out retention ponds to save his life)

Good post. I would add though that this inferiority complex comes only after having your heart ripped out over and over.

Honestly, how many of us either said it or knew that we would miss the final FG to end the South AL game as they were lining up for it? I'll be honest and say that I out loud voiced to those around me that we would miss it, and everyone agreed. Why did I have this mentality? It's because failures like that have happened time and time again. We're all fearful of the top regarding State, as all we've ever really known (or at least me) is small, minor successes with prolonged times of despair. We live by the motto "there is always next year"....

If I'm incorrect in this logic, please let me know.

Criticism within reason is fine, but it gets out of hand. And I doubt there's a single poster here who could do as good or better job as Dan. If there was, he'd be a major college coach instead of a forum poster.

Coaches have always been fair game here but players have historically been off limits. They're not being paid $4.5 million. That said, we need to tighten up the player hating. They're kids. I understand they play big boy football in the SEC and will occasionally get ridiculed, but there's no need for it to come from their own fanbase. It's hasn't been bad IMO considering the season we're having, but we should be careful with going too far down that path.

I agree because the coaches know what they signed up for. Sometimes, though, since we all love Mississippi State, when the attacks on coaches are particularly vicious and have a personal feel to them you will see posters on here take it personally. I'm not saying its right but I somewhat understand it when it happens. I try not to get involved in the personal stuff even though I'm over 40 and I'm a man.
I agree 100% on the players. Unless they do something to disparage our university they deserve our full support and I'm proud every one of them decided to be a Bulldog.

That's human nature these days. If someone disagrees with what I said then they automatically are hating on me and I must get defensive instead of acting like an adult and having an educated debate and actually analyzing a different point of view. And you know what, it's ok to have differing opinions. That is what makes forums great. But just because someone doesn't agree with you (even if they are wrong) doesn't warrant a personal attack or belittlement. We are all big boys and girls here. Lets act like it.
