Flipped from Bama to MSU after coaching change- Owen Lovell. http://www.cullmantimes.com/sports/prep-baseball-cullman-s-lovell-flips-commitment-from-tide-to/article_0247b956-7b84-11e6-ba84-7bfb549466c8.html

One of the state?s best high school baseball players is no longer rolling with the Tide.

Owen Lovell?s new calling? More cowbell.

Committed to Alabama since the summer following his freshman season, Cullman High's all-around senior superstar rescinded his verbal Wednesday night and immediately pledged to Mississippi State instead.

Lovell is the latest in-state prospect to decommit from the Crimson Tide since incoming coach Greg Goff was named Mitch Gaspard's successor in mid-June. Decatur's Tanner Burns was the first with a quick flip to Auburn.

The 6-4 Lovell is Alabama's reigning Mr. Baseball after racking up state bests in home runs (14) and RBIs (64) this spring. He batted .392, slugged .759 and stole 24 bases while remaining error-free with eight assists in 76 total chances in center field. To top it off, the five-tool weapon was 7-1 on the mound with 63 strikeouts, three shutouts and a 1.51 ERA in 51 innings.

Lovell, who's currently starring at safety for Cullman's football team after a year away from the sport, will enter his senior season on the diamond with 40 career home runs.

Lovell's surprising switch gives the Bearcats a pair of Mississippi State and Alabama commits apiece. Pitcher Will Morrison is bound for the Bulldogs after graduation in 2018, while lefty hurler Jacob Heatherly and infielder Noah Fondren ? both seniors ? are still set to sign with the Tide.

Pitcher/middle infielder Carter Bowen (Auburn) and utility man Levi Thomas (Troy) round out Cullman's respective SEC and Division I commits.

Despite finishing as Class 6A runner-up to Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa this spring, the 'Cats will again be the heavy favorite to take home the state title in 2017. They've claimed four state championships ? the most recent in 2015 ? and reached the finals 10 times since 2002.

Very well may be a more polished version of Hunter Renfroe

Dude is a beast. One of the biggest recruits we have gotten under Cohen.

We'll see about that. No doubt he is an outstanding player and pick up for us.

If he's that good then we know he will be drafted high and gone

Maybe not quoted on 24/7 as saying that a good education is a priority.

Chances are he doesn't make it, but this guy seems more of a toss up than most elite players.

why not vandy then? Doubt we see him.

Because no one goes to their games except the annoying ass whistler who has been arrested at least once?

Because we're starting to put guys in MLB?

Because Vandy is more known for pitching than hitting and Cohen's style favors more power than Vandy's small ball offense?

Seen him in person. He's really good. Would be great for us to get him on campus.
