If Dan is adamant on giving our players a day off I'd rather just play it on Thanksgiving than watch an unprepared team.

Big fan of it being on thanksgiving. I also live in Columbus and both my wife's and my family are in Columbus so it makes it easy for us. I could see where it would be difficult for some though.

Attendance for the last Thanksgiving Egg Bowl was 55k so I would imagine that it does hurt attendance some. Using that attendance number as a baseline it probably costs us 5-6k in attendance.

It actually always makes my Thanksgiving plans simple. Otherwise my extended family finds ways to complicate it!

Wasn't 55k our capacity the last time we had it on Thanksgiving?

Love it on Thanksgiving. And it's always been interesting how split the fan base has been on this issue judging by the lengthy threads @ it on all MSU message boards.

People are adamant in their opinion both ways.

This thread could get legs. SEC announcing next years schedule tonight if I read the SEC network blurb correctly.

First time I've mentioned this in awhile. If you don't want to hear me bitch then Dan doesn't need to give me something to bitch about.

It means I'll probably have a couple of tickets for sale to the Egg Bowl next year.

I like it as long as we can ditch Arkansas the week before in favor of an OOC... I want this anyway

Enough are adamant that it probably shouldn't be done. Part of the problem is Scott and Texas A&M are the only ones that want to play on Thanksgiving.

If this happens I hope we have a I-AA cupcake or a bye the week before. More than likely we'll be playing Arkansas I'm sure.

Agree whether we play on Thanksgiving or not.

We could schedule USA every year before the Egg Bowl. **

Seriously though, an (easy) OOC game before is something we should do. Might not hurt to do the same before the Alabama game.

Yes. Love it being on Thanksgiving. Yes it might hurt the attendance some, but watching it with your whole family in town is a nice trade.

Love it if it's the only football that night like it used to be, it's great exposure.

The SEC should do a rotating schedule for teams with OOC on the weekend before the last game..
It ridiculous that EVERY Year Bama gets an OOC game this date ..

Agree, and I think they should rotate Thanksgiving as well. Have the Iron Bowl on Thanksgiving for a couple of years, then the Egg Bowl, then Florida/Florida State, etc.

That's the whole thing about the "exposure" argument. There is so much football on right now that it's pretty rare that you're going to be the only game on. That happens maybe during bowl season and even then there is some overlap.

Traditionally Texas/Texas A&M was the Thanksgiving special. But now with Texas A&M leaving for the SEC that has put that on hold for now. So now we get to play the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving because of that. But you better believe that Texas is going to play someone on Thanksgiving at the same time we do. So, I highly doubt we will be the only game on.

That time slot is a ton of exposure still every year. It's probably the best non playoff slot of all. Two NFL games that afternoon then the Egg.

I love it. Thanksgiving tailgate. I can tell my family to come to Starkville if they want to spend Thanksgiving with me. Honestly though, it's easier for me than most because my parents have passed away and my only sibling lives in Louisville and is a Bulldog. My wife's family doesn't really care as long as we spend some Christmas time with them. I don't get many long weekends so I'll enjoy the time off.

By Egg Bowl 2017, hopefully Mississippi will be in full grip of NCAA sanctions, it's at home for us I like our chances.

Nope not Mormon... I don't think there are a lot of Mormons in Columbus to my knowledge? There are some Mennonites down the road. Pardon me if I missed what was supposed to be sarcastic about that?

I recall our win in Oxford on Thanksgiving night in '98 that clinched the SECW. Lots of fun that night for sure.
