Is there any other options at Corner?

This is my first post on the board. Been registered for a long time but mostly just been a looker.

Our corners looked badly inexperienced Saturday. Do you guys think they need more reps, or should we be giving others a look?

There shouldn't be much surprise here. We knew we were vastly inexperienced at this position going in with the loss of Jiles and Cleveland, and that there would be some growing pains; we were just hoping our front seven would be able to mitigate the damage more than they did Saturday. Durr showed flashes of being the real deal and should be a solid #1 by midseason. Smokey has all the tools to be a good one as well, just needs to continue learning and getting experience. Not sure Rayford will ever be much more than a serviceable backup. I don't remember seeing Peters, Smitherman, or Stamps on the field Saturday, but surely there were others out there because I know we didn't play just three corners. Maybe someone else can chime in there.

Rayford cannot play at this level. Period. Durr showed some potential. Graham is improving. I want to see Stamps and Smitherman get some reps.

I have an idea to help improve the CB position. I would make sure they know the goal of a CB is to play close to a receiver and intercept or know down the ball. I think ours are taught to give the receiver a 5 yard cushion to make sure they don't interfere with the catch.

And JT gray had serious issues in coverage. He was lined up against the TE all day. And sometimes against a slot receiver. I had joe lee Dunn flashbacks.

Smitherman came up limping after the very first kick off. Someone mentioned his ankle was heavily taped after half so I don't know if he rolled it on that kick off or what but they probably didn't want to push it with him knowing we are lacking in depth at corner.

We played a TON of press coverage. Way more than in the past, didn't help and doesn't when you don't have the personnel to do it.

The guys in our secondary are lost folks. How could it be lack of talent if everybody else can play pass defense, including teams like South Alabama, and they were great. I might agree about playing Rayford, but the lack of talent excuse is just false.
