Back in the day, I was corrected that its Starkville not Starksville. 17em Starksville just rolls off the tongue. But I just refer to it as Vegas now.

Born and raised there - it's always been "Starkvul" to me. And hearing "Starksville" drives me nuts, although more when from media types (who are paid to talk for a living) than regular folks.

It's Stark-ville, with slight emphasis on the first syllable. Just like Huntsville.

This is how I thought it was. The reason I wanted to know is because I wrote a song and using Stark-Ville works where as Starkvul doesn't. But I didn't want to piss off any locals who were die-hard Starkvul.

Why don't you keep your opinion to yourself you 17ing bastard yankee. It's Strarkvul, Huntsvul, Greenvul, etc.

Was there some commercial that used StarkSville? We used to joke about it when I was there.

Well, I'm not a die hard local Starkvillian, but I can't imagine anybody being upset about the way you pronounce the name of the town. Some might find some pronunciations humorous though ... such as Stark-vull ... or ever worse ... Stark-vuuuuulllll.

Ha. Whatever ... I just think it sounds better that way. Back when I was in school there, a young lady I knew well was from Greenville (the one in the Delta, not SC), and she called it Green-vuh ... left the L's out.

I remember Flo 'n Eddie's had a radio spot with BB King proudly proclaiming "...Starksville, MS". Always made me shake my head.

If you look at some old maps, I can't remember where I saw one on campus, it was at one time spelled StarkSville.
