I think the way it works is that players get collectively paid under the licensing agreement for jersey and merchandise sales. He gets paid more as total merch sales go up, but not necessarily because it's his name is on it. I don't think it's much in the grand scheme of things...

I think it is a collective pot that the players get a cut from. More than anything hopefully this will lead to endorsements since that is where the real money is anyway.
