If I'm not mistaken this is the Lithuanian national team they are playing. This is a legit test right out of the gate.

While I am grateful to be able to watch some basketball, it would be nice if they turned the phone sideways so we dont have to experience vertical video syndrome!

Since Kegler is the only one mentioned as absent, I take it Ado did get cleared and make the trip?

Never ever ever go by random ppl in chat on Periscope. It's not their B team. It's the real deal. Several trolls are in that chat I noticed.

Bob has said several times that the team we are playing will be our toughest test on the trip and that this team beat Georgetown last year.

Interesting about Kegler as he has been on campus, participating in all the practices and conditioning.

Lithuania makes 1 of 2 free throws with less than 2 seconds remaining to tie game at 73. Looks like OT.

We won 88-83 in OT.

Q was clutch down the stretch hitting FT's. He finished the game with 29 points.

It's the stupid clearinghouse dragging its feet here. Both he and Ado are expected to be cleared.

Yes, most definitely. He will be THE guy and based on this one game he already is comfortable with that role. Team looked really good from what I saw. The freshmen that stood out were Tyson Carter (kid's a shooter) and Eli Wright (I believe Olblue will be wrong about him). Once we get Kegler to add even more talent, it will make it really hard to double team Q so I think he could average 16-18 points this year. We really need to get Ado cleared though. We need more depth in the post to give Herard some breathers down low.

He is going to be All SEC this year.

our issue is going to be post depth. Not being able to get that transfer PF hurt us as needed a bruiser that was ready physically. We're going to have to be a tempo team. Our guards are going to be very, very athletic - just have to hope we don't have too many "freshmen moments'.

I think we'll be able to score most night, but defense is a big concern.

I thought so too. The load of talent we brought in could've changed things though. I love Q, but I'd be thrilled if one of our freshmen were ever better

I wouldn't hold my breath on that 1. Q is an All SEC player. I don't see any of our Freshmen being that level just yet.

Which is to be expected early on with a team made up of 99% underclassmen. We have a ton of athletic guys so if we put in the effort defense should improve as the year goes on.

There were spurts in the game today we played pretty good on defense but as you say that is something that will continue to improve throughout the year. This team can really shoot it which should be exciting on the offensive side.

Q took the game over late. He is going to be a very good player for us, moreso than last year. Herard has a ways to go but is already much more talented than many of our posts the last few years. Big men take time. I was REALLY surprised at how good Tyson Carter looked on Periscope. He won't redshirt this year.

While it was a great win, it was their B team. Lithuania will have a good chance of medaling at the Olympics and we would have no shot against them and their NBA players. A quick look at Twitter and you can see that their A team has been in Rio for almost a week now.

From the updates I kept seeing from MSU BB's Twitter Tyson Carter & Eli Wright both had big games, draining 3's & a big dunk by Wright. I'm excited to see this young team develop.

Then why did the MSU twitter say it was the Lithuanian National Team?

My point is that the team we played was the team that beat Georgetown last year. It is entirely possible that their national A team doesn't play in these exhibition games. Bob said that this team (the team we played today) was the exact team that beat Georgetown. I have not seen anything saying that this was their B team but I guess everyone assumes that since the Olympics are starting.

ROME, Italy – Sophomore slump? Apparently not.

After a solid rookie season that garnered him Freshman All-SEC honors, standout guard Quinndary Weatherspoon picked up where he left off Friday in propelling Mississippi State to a thrilling 88-83 overtime win against the Lithuania National Team in the first of four exhibition games in Italy and Switzerland.

The Canton, Miss., product scored 20 of his game-high 29 points in the second half and drained clutch free throws down the stretch to propel the Bulldogs to victory.

He was 9-of-22 shooting overall, with four of his made field goals coming beyond the arc.

"It was a success as we came out with a win," said Weatherspoon, who logged 36 minutes of action. "I tried to lead by example with my 29 points. We made some mistakes, but everyone played with effort and did their part. I think we showed we have the talent to compete at a high level."

Against the Moose, a majority of the talent came from first-year players, who accounted for 50 points.

Leading the scoring assault were 2016 Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year Tyson Carter with 21 points on 8-13 shooting, followed by Owensboro, Kentucky, native Eli Wright with 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting.

Carter, who starred at Starkville High School, was especially lethal beyond the arc, where he connected on 5 of his 8 attempts.

"With it being my first game, I wanted to come out strong," Carter said. "I was a little slow at first, but I was able to pick up when I started finding my open shots."

The Bulldogs, who now travel to Florence for a Monday night game against another Lithuanian team, trailed 19-11 early. However, MSU slowly chipped away at the Moose lead and went up 20-19 on a floater in the lane by Weatherspoon.

At the half, Mississippi State led 39-34 thanks to a Carter 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Bulldogs never trailed in the second frame, despite the absence of I.J. Ready, who suffered from heat exhaustion late in the first half after totaling 5 points. But with two seconds to play, Lithuania sent the game into overtime on a free throw by Mindaugas Kacinas, a former South Carolina player who totaled 9 points against MSU back in March and finished with 25 Friday.

The Moose built as much as a 79-74 lead, but with 1:45 left Weatherspoon was fouled following steal and made one of this two free throws to even the contest at 80. Then it was another freshman, Joe Strugg, who gave MSU the lead for good at 82-80 with two free throws.

It was an advantage the Bulldogs never squandered, as Weatherspoon and Carter accounted for the final six points to preserve the victory.

"I'm glad we won the game," MSU coach Ben Howland said. "They are well coached and it was a good test for our guys to see what it's going to be like guarding a bunch of ball screens. We really have a long ways to go on both ends of the floor, starting with our defense.

"I thought Q (Weatherspoon) was fantastic, as you would expect. He's our best player on the team and he really played tough for us. He brought us back late in the game and made some big plays down the stretch. He was just great all the way around. I thought Tyson Carter was really good as well."

For the game, MSU was 32-of-67 shooting, 11-20 from long range. Lithuania was 27-67 and 14-39 beyond the arc.

How did Ready end up with heat exhaustion DURING the game? Was there no A/C in the gym?

That just sounds odd.
