ugh. trying to save face but just hurting the team more. if you don't want Olivera any more, just cut him. instead they'll throw even more money after bad to waste on Kemp.

Pads are also kicking in $10-12 million for us to take him. It's basically giving us a RH bat for next to nothing while ditching an expensive prospect.

we'll be paying Kemp $5M a year, according to reports. for a guy that probably won't do much better than a AAA callup could for the minimum.

he does still have power though, and still hits lefties very well. he'll probably be a decent platoon player in LF. but they already have that in Franceour. and spending money for a platoon player for a non-contending team doesn't seem like a wise use of money. maybe he can be a key veteran piece in 2018/2019, but it's more likely he's BJ Upton by then. i don't think they'd have made the trade for the same result if they weren't justifying it as a way to get rid of Olivera, and that's just poor management.

i was referring to against LHP, but Kemp has Frenchy there too, by 250 points OPS. still kinda weird to make that move and have Frenchy on the team, as it limits ABs for Mallex. but maybe they plan on flipping one of them.

ETA: but man his defense stinks. even with those good hitting stats this year he's been worth 0.3 WAR. shit Mallex has been worth 0.6 WAR, and he's barely played!
