View Full Version : Perception vs Reality

Ole Missus is so consumed with perception more than reality- because as lawyers and politicians have learned- perception usually wins out. OM has done a great job of pushing their perception through the years- while us BookFarmers have done a completely shitty job on that front. Even our super smart Yankee Scientologist Head Football coach doesn't realize he should worry more about perception instead of counting on reality to rule the forefront. OM has convinced people they are the better program in Mississippi even though they have lagged behind for 20 years now. They steer the perception. Just like lying to people before the NOA was released- they completely 100% lied to everyone- and just expected people to accept it. But the reality is this:

Last 10 years-

Overall Record
1. Alabama (81.7%)(111-25)
2. LSU (77.1%) (101-30)
3. Florida (72.0%) (95-37)
4. Georgia (71.2%) (94-38)
5. Missouri (67.4%) (89-43)
6. Auburn (65.4%) (85-45)
7. South Carolina (62.0%) (80-49)
8. Texas A&M (60.5%) (78-51)
9. Arkansas (57.8%) (74-54)
10. Mississippi State (55.1%) (70-57)
11. Tennessee (53.5%) (68-59)
12. Ole Miss (51.6%) (65-61)
13. Kentucky (44.0%) (55-70)
14. Vanderbilt (41.1%) (51-73)

OM is the 3rd worst SEC football program for the last decade

SEC Record
1. Alabama (77.9%) (67-19)
2. Florida (67.9%) (57-27)
3. LSU (67.5%) (56-27)
4. Georgia (64.6%) (53-29)
5. Texas A&M (53.1%) (17-15)
6. Auburn (52.4%) (43-39)
7. Missouri (50.0%) (17-17)
8. South Carolina (49.4%) (40-41)
9. Arkansas (45.7%) (37-44)
10. Mississippi State (41.3%) (33-47)
11. Tennessee (40.7%) (33-48)
12. Ole Miss (36.3%) (29-51)
13. Vanderbilt (26.3%) (21-59)
14. Kentucky (25.0%) (20-60)

OM also has the 3rd worst SEC record for the last decade. They are bottomfeeder program.

They are a joke of a program. And they are about to get significant sanctions- because the only way OM can compete in the SEC is to brazenly cheat on SMU levels. Their history shows that.

I say the majority of those Mizzou and aTm victories can be thrown out. Big12 (-2) had some bad years. During the Chase Daniel period UM padded thier record bigtime.

Tennessee below us is interesting seeing as this includes a few Croom years. They've been down for a while.

A little bit surprised to see that as well. But let's be real clear, they aren't "down." This is their new reality. They've terribly mismanaged their finances over the years by firing coaches let and right since Fat Phil left. And they're in a state that doesn't produce a ton of top end talent. Plus, they're having to split that talent with not only another SEC program, but 2-3 other decent FBS programs. And on top of that, they're surrounded by other major SEC schools who actually ARE legit powers that cherry pick their region. The UT brand name doesn't attract players the way it did 15+ years ago.

They're a has been program pining for glory days unlikely to ever return. The rise of SCar and Clemson have hurt them perhaps more than any other SEC program, too. UT has a whole lot of problems without any real solutions.

Fine. I agree. They have always been about the perception of being elite (recruiting) rather than the reality of being elite (sec champ game, 1 in the polls for the nc).

They are about.to go down. Maybe not smu down, but in the sec a small disadvantage is a huge one.

Hope it was worth it. Ole country song is titled :

You are absolutely correct! It's their pattern. They cheat for awhile and do ok then they get busted and back to the bottom again. This has been repeated by them over and over in their history accept they're not even good enough at cheating to get a championship, they even screw that up! They are wanna be's who will never be all that! They're like the kid who hangs around all the cool kids hoping it rubs off! They are a pathetic bunch!

Surfing earlier today, I came across a few articles about a guy I knew in HS that ended up as a UM Law grad and ran for a judgeship awhile back. Lost in a landslide and had no business running to begin with. Anyway, was thinking the perception vs reality thing as I read the articles and how this guy portrays himself to the public vs how he really is (morally bankrupt and a complete moron). Just typical OM and another example of the mindset that is prevalent/fostered with their fanbase/grads.

SC glory days are a thing of the past now. The last two season and the coach they just hired assures that.

SC will probably recruit better now but Muschamp is probably not the answer. Clemson stepping up is probably the biggest hurdle to SC than anything.

Don't think for a minute that UT won't be back eventually.

Back in the sense that they will have some good years, absolutely. Back in the sense that they will be nationally relevant for an extended period? It's certainly possible with the right coach, but they don't have any particular advantage in getting there like they used to. I would say they aren't in any different position than USCe or Mizzou at this point.
