I'm pretty sure this has been talked about before, but Denzel Nkemdiche 1st team is just hilarious.

His chirping has got him to where he is today. I'd take McKinney all day every day...and so would the NFL.

He made first team because his last name is Nkemdiche..

Once again, no sign of the "best' player in Mississippi, when voted upon by someone other than Mississippi media.

You could argue that he wasn't even the best or most valuable LB for UM last year. Mike Marry's stats were almost identical Nkemdiche's, but Marry was the anchor of that front seven. He was one of the main reason teams weren't always able to run right through their undersized defense.

Nkemdiche's a good player, but for him to be first team All-SEC in the AP and Coaches voting is just another example of how public perception and name recognition skews preseason polls like this.

He'd be an excellent Big 10 MLB. Against the spreads and on 3rd downs he was rarely on the field. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, but Marry just isn't an every down LB. I'm not so sure we don't see McKinney off the field some against spread teams. He was a stud last year but had some issues covering backs in space. Definitely better than Marry but similar body type and skill set.

I liked what I saw of Nkemdiche but I think he just doesn't work well in a 4-3 set. Lots of penetration and quickness was/is his game. I just can't see him doing nearly as well in a defense that asks you to read and get off blocks.
