A good article (cover story, actually) has already been done. It's been twenty years or more ago, but check SI's archives for The Meanest Coach Who Ever Lived.

I know a lot of Juco coaches and I go to a lot of Juco games. This thing is going to be really good. Let's just say they have a some really good source material.

I've read it. I also have an uncle who played for him. He says the article only scratched the surface.

I think the title was actually "Toughest Coach Who Ever Lived", not "Meanest".
