I'm gonna be that guy - it was Scott Field. Believe it was 41,200 for both AU/AL games with endzone bleachers brought in. This was the beginning of the complete disaster of Rockey's 86 squad. 35-6 to AU. 38-3 to Bobby Humphrey's elephants. 47-0 to LSU in Jxn & 24-3 in Egg in Don Smith's last game. Blew an easy bowl game after starting 6-1 with a road win at Tennessee. Rockey never recovered.

Meant to also add '86 was the first year of the West side upper deck expansion.

I remember going to the Auburn game full of hope and excitement. Auburn's RB, I think his name was Fullwood, ran all over us. I knew then we were not that good.

That was the first year. Beat fla 20-16 earlier that year there and it wasn't a sell out. Auburn was the first.

We did by 1987. My dad took me to Tennessee and Louisiana Tech games in back to back weeks. We sat in it. I remember going up to the top for the first time.
1988 was the Georgia year. Tech and 10
While we did play UGA in 1988, that may not be the year you're talking about. I went to that game and UGA wore red pants!!! It was back and forth, but we lost 42-35 in a rare shootout.

Didn't play UGA in 1986. Started 6-1 with wins over Florida and Tennessee. My first ever trip to the Superdome was that year when we beat Tulane 34-27. Then we lost the last four as seen in another post above, but UGA wasn't one of them. Florida was a permanent opponent back then and we still rotated only one besides the five permanents (Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Florida). UT was the rotator that year.

Went to that game. We absolutely mauled their KO Return man on the first play and really fired the crowd up. It was all down hill from there.
ETC: We did not beat USM that year, it was the two seasons prior (2 in a row, whooo).

I was there for that game. Seems like we were down 28-0 at the half. Pretty disappointing after the good start to the season.

Ahhh.....1986. I was there as well. I don't remember the Auburn game well but I remember the Bama game too well. I remember LT brought in the endzone bleachers to handle the oversized crowds. Which is why our record attendance prior to the 2000 year was 42K when the stadium only held 40K. I recall pre game vs Bama......the players came down the frog legs and ran out between the bleachers, to hundreds of Gumps shaking pom poms in their face. What a home welcome.....anyway.....Bobby Humphrey seemingly picked up 5 yards every time he carried the ball.
I am pretty sure those endzone bleachers sat there another season and weren't used again as we never had that large of crowd.
Also, stadium additions are constructed at light speed compared to when the west upper deck was done. It seems it took 2 years for them to finish that west upper. Then again LT may have been paying them as he filled up his penny bank.
Sorry this post has such negative recollections but just a reminder to young pups. How far we have come.

During the Croom era I would have taken 6-5 several years and been happy. Unfortunately Croom would not have been fired.

Painful stretch. No line on either side of the ball. Rocky got it rebuilt just as he got pushed out. Regarding Bama, don't forget that effen Jelks too.

That Tennessee game was a great one. Don Smith's long run down the sideline.

I was at the LSU game. We were down 47-0 and we tried a field goal with about a minute left in the game and missed. LSU got the ball back and were throwing 40 yard passes trying to run up the score. I think we had a winning streak against them before that game.
