This is an old crazy as hell video. Ali had been following Liston around giving him hell. In the middle of a Vegas casino, Liston pulls out a real gun and aims it at Ali and starts firing. Here's the catch: it was blanks. The crazy side of that is neither Ali or the casino floor patrons knew that. Liston casually shoots 1 last blank into his jacket and shrugs showing everyone, "Chill guys it's not real". LOL. He probably leans back over his craps table and continues to gamble. How gangster did boxing used to be? Can you imagine something like this in today's day and age? Just unbelievable video

You're correct almost positive. Frankie Carbo, capo in the Lucchese family, was the boxing czar of that time and Sonny was just another champion under Carbo. Every boxer of that era was mobbed up. Ali talked a bunch of Smack. It was something that we didn't see that often when I was a kid. It wasn't resented in our household for any reason regarding race, it was just simply poor sportsmanship. At least that was what we were taught by our dad. Closest thing that came to smack for us in those days was some chatter from the dugout giving the opposing pitcher a hard time when he couldn't find the plate, or threw one into the backstop.

That's most likely exactly what this was, another PR stunt to increase interest, and ultimately the size of the pot for this fight. The prevailing thought at the time this occurred was that it was a fake setup/marketing stunt. Think about it. back then, camera's were not prominent like they are today. What were the chances someone happened to have one focused exactly where it needed to be exactly when it needed to be there? I'm sure it worked back then though...

I've watched the video of Liston getting clipped. I do think Ali connected and he may have connected well enough to drop Liston. Perhaps Liston embellished, however, in fighting sometimes the right shot at moderate power is all it takes. How many boxing pundets have taken any shots in a ring, sparring or a match? Not many!

Sometimes a shot on video doesn't look like one that would KO you, or you've taken multiple shots and are dazed or tired and one "easy" one drops you.

Ali was a fantastic boxer, showman, and entertainer. The greatest athlete personality of all time. He most likely wasn't the greatest boxer of all time though, maybe the greatest heavyweight. Top three for sure.
