View Full Version : SEC Championship
Does the SEC recognize the regular season champion or tourny champion as official champion. When was the last time we won the regular season championship ?

There will be regular season champs & also SEC champs.
Last time we won the regular season champ was back in 89??? or something when Clark & Raffy & those boys were in town.

The regular season championship is more meaningful. The tournament format distorts rotations... it's more a matter of who get's hot for a week, who wants to save pitching for regionals, and who has better pitches after the first three have been used.
Baseball should be done just like basketball
No east and west
One regular season champ & one tourney champ...

It was '89. Cohen and Tommy Raffo were on that team.

For the regular season, they recognize overall and division champions. If the teams are tied for either of those metrics, they are both co-champions, regardless of head to head. Case in point, if we sweep and Texas A&M sweeps, we are both SEC champions.
The tournament champion is just that....tournament champion.
Regular season is more prestigious and signifies a better season/achievement, but tournament champion gives you an automatic bid to the Dance. Tournaments are held in baseball for the same reason as in basketball - to generate excitement and give bubble teams (for various reasons) one last chance to make a statement.
