MSU vs. Mizzou - weekend SOFTBALL thread - Gotta win weekend

Tonight's game was originally supposed to have started around 6:00pm but rain has delayed it until 7:45pm.

For those need a quick catch up....

We are 25-24, 3-15 SEC. Let me sum up. We pretty much have to win this series, which would be our first to win of the season, to havw a reasonable chance of making a regional. To ensure we make one, we have to sweep this weekend or win 2 and steal 1 at Kentucky next weekend. Sure, lose and things are still mathematically possible but the reality is that any idea that we will get a postseason bid without winning 2 out of 3 against Mizzou this weekend is unrealistic, grasping at straws even.

Tonight's game somewhat of a microcosm of whole SEC season. Some offense, but not quite enough to overcome a couple of runs allowed by defensive breakdowns. Time runs shorts. Five VERY tough games left to win three.

Baserunning mistakes seem to cost us big innings in big games. This one was no different.

But unless you are satisfied with this HORRIBLE season that is going to end with us hosting a SEC Tournament we won't even participate in... then you should agree. I still think we're going to make the SEC Tournament. We're still two games ahead of the Razorbacks and they have a game against LSU today plus play #1 Florida next week. With that said, we are in very real jeopardy of being ineligible for postseason while having a very good RPI and SOS because we won't get to .500 unless we start winning (including upsets) and I mean NOW.

Today's game slated for 3:30pm-ish but could be delayed as well. It's supposed to be on the SECN main channel.

I just have no reason to expect us to win even one. We'll follow our now common SEC formula and that is get blown out once, have a real chance to win one and blow it on a defensive breakdown or baserunning mistake, and the other we'll kind of have a chance to win but they'll finally pull ahead for good. I'm aware I'm being overly negative but it is frustrating. We were once 18-3!!!!! Yes, it was non-conference play but we had some decent wins, then lost 2 of 3 to Auburn but one of them was a 14 inning epic one. We had no reason to think we weren't still going to have a great year. We had a six game loss skid where we went down to UCA in a pitcher's duel, then 3 heartbreakers against Tennessee, a bad loss to UAB on a first inning defensive meltdown, and finally the game 1 loss in the UMiss series. We never recovered from that. Losses like the UCA and UAB one were frustrating at the time, but the truth is we had our jugular cut and didn't even know it. I'm still in disbelief at how this has ended up. Even a month ago, we still seemed like we would make the postseason.
