I thought it was interesting that the clarion ledger made a point to write that State's Governor's Cup win over Ole Miss enabled State to win this school year 4-3 in major sports over OM (football, men's basketball, and baseball). They even listed each of the 7 games.

So I thought I'd pull out the all-time record, each verified by MSU game notes. I also updated Wikipedia to reflect the new totals (basketball record vs OM probably hadn't been updated in 3-4 years).

Current all-time totals:

Overall 430-379-11

Baseball: MSU over OM 245-204-5

Men's Basketball: MSU over OM 142-112

Football: OM over MSU 63-43-6 (counting two MSU forfeits in the 70's that were won on the field by MSU as OM victories/MSU losses)

Don't be surprise if that record gets better when Ole Miss has to vacate some football wins.

If we normalize the football and basketball records to baseball and count each sport equally, we still hold the edge, although barely - 673-660.

I may be mis-remembering this, but I think that now, when the NCAA vacates wins, it doesn't count as a forfeit/loss (like it did against us in the '70s). I think vacated wins make it look like the game wasn't played at all. I wish they'd either make all probation/penalty related historical games into vacated wins or go back to making teams forfeit those illicit wins.

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle...or at least able to pee where she wanted at Target.

We will not get the win but they don't get the win either so that is one win that does not show up in their all time record.

This is the takeaway. Rebels like to count the Vaught days because that's all they have. Nobody cared back then. Since the conference expanded, and the conference really took off in popularity and revenue, they aren't what they think they are.

Nice! 102-80, with MSU leading all 3 over the past 25 years.

The dominance in all three sports shows who the premier program in the state is. In spite of the JWS witch hunt, and the dismal decade that followed, we're still ahead in football.

I think only the wins are vacated. The losses count against the losing team in their official record and the wins disappear from the cheating team's record. Even though that doesn't make sense, I think that's the way it works.

Thanks for the clarification. Makes me wish even more that they'd pick one way to do it and apply it retroactively so overall records are more apples-to-apples comparisons.

Don't forget, UMiss: Only team in the West without a legit division title in football (TAMU has a few from the Big 12), only team in the entire SEC without a regular season conference title in basketball, and one trip to Omaha since the 70s.

That's beyond pathetic considering how elite they pretend to be.

I can't believe baseball is that close.
