So we aren't going to pitch Humphreys in the 9th?
I guess not. Maybe we should've run Smith for Rooker instead. He would've been safe at 2nd and we would have made a run of it.

Collins with one thing on his mind right here.
He hit it the other way, so I'm fine with that

Kyestone cop inning by Bears and we can't score. From here he looked safe, like real safe. What they show on tv?

The bunt call was fine. Stovall has to put it in play period.
It's the manager's job to put his team in the best position for success. Counting on Stovall to 'put it in play' when he's not very good at that is on Cohen more than Stovall. You have to understand your team's strengths and weaknesses and play to them.
Managing off a chart with no thought put into which players are doing what is not what a smart manager does.

What would you not pitch Humphreys one inning for the win? He has not pitched for 2 days and has a day off tomorrow.

He was out. If he had waited the next pitch went to the backstop and then Humphreys singles.

We were in a great position for success. You play for one run there, not a big inning.

It's on Stovall. He tries to drive in 2 runs instead of staying disciplined and situational hit. You've got to find out and put him in that spot if you plan on him being the second baseman in June.

He puts it in play and scores the runner from third they may pitch to Mangum. I wouldn't but they might have. Changes the inning.

That's kind of like saying the coach drew up a play to have Weatherspoon pass up the open look to get it to Reggie Patterson, and it's Patterson's fault for not coming through because, 'you gotta knock that one down.'

No. It's not.
Any hitter past the 5 hole has to be able to bunt in that situation as its a situation where bunting is appropriate. And no matter who is next in your entire program they have to be able to put the ball in play with a man on third with less than2 outs. The shit is taught in high school in any program worth their salt. It's totally on Stovall. And he would tell you that.

10-0-8-1-11-0. That's the runs we've given up in our last 6 games. Amazing how we can yo-yo between giving up almost no runs to giving up double digit runs.

If Mangum was up instead of Stovall I agree, you don't take the bat out of your best hitters hands. But we didn't. The only reason Mangum was up with a base open was bc Stovall or whomever you wanted to pinch hit didn't put the ball in play. It was the right decision to bunt if you are playing for one run. Even will James's crazy numbers show that. If Stovall can't put it in play then hit for him.

If you don't believe he can put the ball in play in that situation against an average, at best, arm then he should not be playing.

Fahr Wes Johnson!11!1 All these 10 spots we give up every Sunday with these pitchers on the bench!11!1 Our coaches are idiots not playing our best players!1!
I'm sure relieved that we won. ^ is what it seems from my perspective like every time we drop one.
Like was said when everyone was defining what this team couldn't be the past two days -- a month is a lot of time for one or two more guys to emerge. Cyr and Billingsley both progressed alot tonight. Although Billingsley's overall approach was a one-night thing in how he defined a scouting report tonight IMO. Won't be able to get away with a single pitch for long in the SEC, I don't care how good it is(and it was electric).

great win! We have a very favorable schedule to close out the season. If we keep playing well 8-4 is the absolute worst we should finish and if we could get a couple sweeps we could get to 10-2.

Gonna be all about the arms from here on out. Define a few roles and have some guys reach their potential (brown, Houston) and some good things could happen.

Wow. You have to compare apples to apples. Cyr did have a good outing. He's been able to pitch midweek and get a lot of innings in and not in high pressure situations. He's good but not as good as Small or Breaux. They have been thrown in the fire and put in pressure situations. That's why Johnson is the coach.

Small and Breaux have higher ceilings for sure. But Cyr does need to pitch more right now.

I thought Wes did an outstanding job managing the pitching staff. I have been a critic of that aspect of his coaching- of course I haven't called for him to be fired because he did come into the job on the fly and has a TON of freshmen and some guys that haven't really had success in the SEC for the most part. So- I do understand to a degree even though it is frustrating sometimes.
I'm curious to see how he does with our staff after they have had a full year in his program plus some now good experience.

What situation have they been put into that is higher pressure than starting the Governor's cup in front of a packed house?
He doesn't have the same ceiling -- but he's better than both right now because he managed to keep command and composure under bright lights.
