Some people are runners, some are not. I'm in the "not" category. Ran my second ever half in March with very little training. Brutal.

Probably some Kenyan that is 6'7" 119lbs who is probably already 15 miles in.

Trust me. I know. I did cross-country in high school my freshman and sophomore years. I quickly figured out that I am not a runner. I do not enjoy it. In fact, I think about other ways I could be spending my time while I'm doing it.

Dan better be careful. The first 13-14 miles of Boston are net downhill. Hills start after that.

I run about the same mile times during a 5K. I don't consider myself a runner either but I run to keep from being any fatter. With that said, I would die running 26 miles. He is helluva man running a marathon.

Is this considered grinding, relentless effort, or strain?

To me....all of the above.

To watch online, go to http://watchlive.baa.org/ Pretty amazing to see the festivities. I haven't paid too much attention to the race until Dan got involved, but it is amazing what all goes into it and how the city supports it.

Over half way home....minutes per mile climbing a little, which is to be expected. On pace for a 4 hr, 15 min. time, which was his goal.

To even run that far is impressive to me. To finish it in just over 4 hours is extremely impressive. But when I saw some had finished the race in just over two hours blew my mind. This guy ran the whole race averaging just over a 5 minute mile. I was wrong about one thing in my earlier post. I said Kenyan. He was Ethiopian.

Not completely sure, but I think you have to qualify time wise to some extent, otherwise you can get a waiver if you are doing it to raise money for charitable reasons, which is what Dan is doing.

We use an alternate jersey that has nothing to do with school colors so much that we now need an alternate to the alternate to stay cool and avant-garde and blue is that color.**

So does this mean we will see Bucky hosting some sort of prayer-marathon to raise money for the Haiti trips? Hour 1: crootin on faith; hour 2: snakes and how you handle them; hour 3: angels are always there to help when you fall (even out of windows); hour 4: the finer points of strychnine.

Not taking anything away from him, but I think the "not completing a 5k" thing with him was a little overblown. I just took that to mean he's never entered an official 5k. But most people who run even semi regularly significantly exceed a 5k distance every time they go out. I'm sure Dan has many times.

Completing a marathon in under four is considered the Holy Grail for weekend warriors. My best time is around 4:10 in the Mississippi Blues marathon a few years back. I trained to break four, but didn't account for the Jackson hills.
