A lot of people want to see college athletes paid, in part because they bring money to the university.

There are others who are dead-set against it, and point to the fact that tuition, room & board are compensation enough. After all, these kids have a chance to graduate with a degree and a college education.

But I'm not sure I've seen it mentioned (apologize if it has been) that the free (out-of-state) tuition these kids are getting is on par with athlete's starting salaries to play Arena football. When you add in the value of the room & board, the reality is, college football players are already getting compensated considerably more than Arena football players.

Even if you reduce the tuition for in-state kids, the value of free housing, meals , fees, etc, adds up to more than what your average Arena-league gets as a starting salary.

Thoughts?

Only if they start paying the kids that are on academic scholarship. These kids raise the University's status, just in stats alone. So no, athletes get enough as it is.

Yeah, arena football and the tens of fans that watch it. Lowly us, Mississippi State, will have more people at our spring exhibition against ourselves than the arena football championship.

Next argument please.

No. This would drive many football programs out of the football business. Also if you pay them then there will be law suits saying every athlete should be paid. It would get out of hand.

Hate to break it to you, but you did not have a, "drop-the-mic" moment.

Oh, and it doesn't have to be limited to Arena Football. CFL players have a minimum salary of $41,000. Once again, if you factor in cost-of-living, the college player is doing just fine with his value compared to the CFL pro.

Don't forget that entering the workforce debt free is another step ahead financially too... Paying off student loans for two or three years is a bitch.
