You guys have got to see Billy Gonzales' twitter video of Peters playing WR.

I'd be shocked if Peters gets moved off defense as his primary position, but I think the staff is experimenting with Peters playing WR so we can replace Bear's redzone production. I could see Peters coming in to play WR in the redzone & giving us a bigger target in those situations.

I find this sorta weird... Not bc I don't think peters is dynamic enough to play offense, but bc peters hardly had his assignments down on defense last season. Hopefully peters has made a huge jump defensively.... Enough to spend time on offense too

Saw the video. That was impressive. Lot of power going after that ball.

Is it just me or do some y'all kinda think something has clicked with Mullen lately? The new hires, the FB sets and now using a big bodied defensive guy to be a big bodied WR. I think I really like this new Mullen.

I agree. Things seem different.

And I forgot the Frankenstein stuff on defense with Sirmon. It's like Mullen has a new outlook about coaching and he's digging in.

He's being more proactive & aggressive in recruiting & expanding our crooting territory (thanks coaching new hires!) & aggressive on the coaching front. I like it too. He seems to have mentally checked back into the game.

If true, then I expect him to kick Hugh's ass in Oxford this year to start another string of victories over UNM.

Mullen told Peters and us, for that matter, that he was going to experiment with Peters on both sides of the ball (when he was recruited). Also, Smokey has no business trying to guard a 6'3" 220lb receiver. What's funny is Smitherman is smaller than Smokey but doesn't have a problem driving a forearm into the receiver's jaw off the line. Smokey's gotta figure something out.

I think part of it is he knows unm is about to get busted and he knows how bad they're gonna get hammered. I think he's ready to lock it down and make us THE team. Just look at the new coaching hires. We hired guys that have had success recruiting nationally and we hired guys that have deep ties in state. I think Dans ready to make it OUR STATE for real!

I don't buy the Mullen talk just yet. I still feel like he will go back to his same ole complacent self once the season comes around and he will go back to his stubborn ass ways and predictable play calling running Holloway up the middle. Hope that I'm wrong but I just don't buy it. And smokey is about to get left in the dust if something doesn't click with him. He just hasn't been very good and the receivers make him look stupid most of the time. I'm pulling for smokey I want him to do well but something has to give.

True. We'll just have wait and see. I'm also gonna refrain from saying anything about recruiting until we can close.

Yeah you're right. I'mjust glad to see all the offers go out early & extending footprint but you both have points. We'll see.

I think there's some truth in that. Dan probably has a few contacts in the NCAA giving him some info. He wants to be ready when the time comes.

More football players should play both ways.

There is break after break after break in a football game. These players are in well enough shape to handle the running involved.

I can understand linemen, linebackers and running backs are busting heads every play and need fewer plays to minimize injury but wrs and dbs....could play both sides easily.

Yes and no. I agree if you have the depth to do it but in our case if Peters went out there and got hurt at receiver then we just lost a safety and lose depth at that position. I agree that they are in shape to go both ways I'm just skeptical because of our lack of depth at the S position. I mean I think Peters or Bryant could be electric with the ball in their hands on a kickoff or punt return but I would just be scared they'd get hurt if I were the coach.

Going both ways!?! When I saw the thread title I thought you were saying that JP was down with kimdeeche business. Hahaha! I was wondering why the mods let the thread go so long without shutting it down.

Not a very crisp route but impressive physicality.

My thoughts are exactly opposite. I think teams like MSU with a lack of quality depth, should play their best athletes both ways to create more quality depth at more positions. Because we have fewer quality athletes than say....Alabama.

If they are sitting on the sideline, what is the point of having them. As for fear of injury..... That's a chance you take if you want to win.

Smokey is an outstanding athlete. I really wish we could have redshirted him, because he needed it, but he was pretty hell bent on playing as a Freshman. He is very emotional and needs to grow up, and I don't know if he ever will. I think he would be better on offense, but we are pretty stacked at the slot. I hope it works out that he is good enough to be on the 2 deep.
