As a kid, loved Saturday afternoon baseball on NBC with him and Tony Kubek.

Yes, I remember watching him on NBC. I thought he did a good job as a commentator. Never cared for Kubek though.

That's sad! Grew up watching him on Saturdays and loved it when he would go on Johnny Carson and show some bloopers and tell his stories. Dang I'm getting old!

I actually liked Kubek...thought they were a good team...tough getting to the age where all your childhood people you grew up watching starting to die off

Don't feel so bad, it was Vin Scully and Garagiola when I first started watching the game of the week.

Joe was pretty much the voice of baseball for a generation. It's a sad day.

On the same street in St. Louis. And I believe Jack Buck lived there at one time as well.

I'm so happy that you old Dawgs are on here and give my appreciation to your children for showing you how to work a computer so you can read and post.

I lived those Saturday afternoon games. When wife texted me earlier about this an to be honest, I thought he was already dead! Was he like 100?

Dizzy and Pee Wee were doing a game in St. Louis when I was a kid, that I was fortunate enough to go to. I got their autograph back at the hotel.
Liked Joe too. Had a lot of good stories.

RIP Joe - you were one of a kind. Seems like baseball had more interesting personalities back in the day. I once met Dizzy Dean at his little fruit stand north of Wiggins near Bond. It was a summer delivery job when I was going to State and Dizzy handed me a peach, which to this day I can say was the best tasting I've ever had.
