and I couldn't be happier about it! Thank you Wes Johnson!! Pretty sure that's the highest pitch count Cohen has let one pitcher get since he got here. Maybe Ross Mitchell beat that total once but he threw with no stress on his arm so he doesn't really count. If we want to seriously contend for Omaha we have to build 3-4 horses that can go 120 pitches deep. This was a huge step last night and it shouldn't go overlooked. Gotta think Wes is the reason here.

I thought when Cohen 1st got here that people were bitching about him throwing our pitchers way too long. Maybe I'm mistaken but I remember something about that.

Cohen fell in love with Ross and his bullpen (which to be fair was the reason we made it to the NC series) but he lost his way in doing so. You have to have 3-4 stud horses starting and going deep in games to win titles. That formula should never changed.

I'm pretty sure Stratton threw as many if not more a few years ago when we lost a close one to LSU

Yea you're right he did. Forgot about that. Speaking of Stratton he got a win for the Giants the other day. Threw 3 scoreless innings.

That's what I thought. The hate for Cohen was strong.

140+ pitches in one outing should bring on hate unless it's the final game for the National Championship and you've got Clayton Kershaw pitching.

It's ok to stretch to 140 every now and then when it's warm in April and May. These guys pitch every 7 days- so they get plenty of rest. Now that shouldn't happen 3 starts in a row or anything like that- but it's not a big deal.

Our starters threw 120 on multiple occasions last year. Happens a lot more than you think.

I remember Cohen throwing Tyler Whitney (I think) something like 150+ pitches in back-to-back starts and a start of 100+ the week before those 2 starts in his first two years. I ripped his ass for it. And predictably, Whitney was a shell of himself after that 3 week stretch.

120 occasionally is fine, but it shouldn't be a regular occurrence, even only pitching once a week. Frankly, I wish we'd throw fewer pitches and get deeper into games. I know Huddy is supposed to be a strikeout pitcher, which means he's going to throw more pitches. I'd just like to see us be a bit more efficient on the hill. But there's definitely a ton of talent, and as long as we're pitching well and winning, it's hard to argue.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hudson, a K guy, mow people down for 7-8, and then our bullpen mow the rest down. Sexton is usually a contact guy (although he looks like Pedro Martinez today), can stretch us out on Saturdays, and then piece it together Sunday. We got a lot of guys that can bring the heat and have good stuff, no need to hold anything back. Everyone should enter the game with the mentality that they are going one inning.

No. We extended Graveman, Stratton, etc quite often. Several times/guys I thought we overextended early in the season. I didn't feel that way about Hudson though. He actively got better after 90 or so pitches.

Sexton threw 104 pitches .. 61 for strikes. Gave up 4 hits and 4 walks .. with 12 Ks .. 0 runs allowed

If we could just cut the damn walks, we'll be a tough team to beat.

Five outta fifty games is a lot?

120 isn't a bad number. I've never understand why the maximum number of allowed pitches is such a nicely even and round number like 100.

Pitch counts should take the individual into consideration...mechanics, stress, recoverability, etc.
There is no set number for everyone. I see no issue with a well oiled D1 pitcher eating innings as long as he isn't struggling with mechanics.

Thats not what you said... you were saying that was the first since we threw 120 pitches since Cohen got here.
It's happened a lot more than just last year as has been pointed out..

Lol why do all the research when others will gladly do it instead? Did I look up the pitch counts for every game the last five years? Nope y'all did it for me. Thanks

I think pitchers are babied way too much now. they throw once every 7 days, and for a big guy like hudson I doubt 120 stresses him in the slightest.

saw Eric Dubose throw 2 complete games in 3 days - pitch counts mean shit to me when a guy starts struggling time to pull em

Typical bullshit from you. Say shit that is inaccurate people normally just fall for it. In this case, there are facts to back up your idiocy.
