Did anyone make it out to practice today? Anything to note?
I do know that Fred Ross wasn't there due to having surgery and Damian Williams took first team reps at QB.
Anyone have anything to add?

Damian took the 1st reps bc he had the highest GPA. Every QB took equal reps with the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd teams.

I saw depth chart posted by Paul Jones of 247 ... FWIW at this moment. Here are a couple of things I noticed:

Rankin is running #1 at LT.
Senior at RT; Backup is Jenkins

Shump/Hollaway splitting #1 back (please don't let this continue to be the case).

Fitz/Damien were splitting #1 QB duties.

Running 3-4 D with Leo running 1st ILB with Richie. Gerri Green was Leo's backup.

Edited to update: Steve R. had tackles reversed and QBs as Fitz 1, Tiano 2.

That's odd that Green was backing up Leo

1st day is just a starting point. Once they get a good 4/5 practices in-
you'll start seeing some movement

Mullen is going to give every QB a chance to win the job- why wouldn't he?

yeah you really can't tell much from day 1 of spring practice especially when it will be 2 weeks before we practice again

As Mullen said #1's are based on GPA for all positions. So, expect a lot of change for the Fall.
Good motivation tactic though.
Ross' surgery was a surprise to me. But, having him at 100% in the Fall is key.

Are they still teaching the hawk tackling? Or is that a thing of the past?

Guess we know who is studying the most on the team right now then.

Don't know, but I hope it's gone, although it's supposed to be much safer. Just think it hurt us with the lack of forced turnovers last year.

My question is why wait until first day of spring practice to have surgery if it's been nagging him? And I do understand he doesn't need to go thru spring as long as he's 100% for fall practice.

I didn't see where Dan said exactly when he had the surgery. He did say that there was chance he wouldn't have to have it, but Fred and his family decided to go ahead and do it to be 100% for the season.

It was likely a case of them trying to rest it to heal and that just didnt happen. So surgery was the next step

Yea, gotcha. That makes sense. I did read that everyone was involved in the decision, so I guess they gave it as much time as they could.

Also reduces Ross chance of sustaining any kind of injury. He knows the offense so him missing spring ain't gonns hurt him. We need him 100% this fall.
