Guess Bell wasn't overly impressed with the instruction he got from Mullen.

Dan Mullen is not a kicking coach. I dont know why we ever thought he was. He tried to help with kickers but for the most part they coached each other. I think we are starting to see Dan grow up as a head coach and make some quality hires. Its taken 8 years but these quality control positions and such hires hes made this offseason will go a long way in making us a better team.

Uh, the problem was never the fans thinking Mullen was a kicking coach. The problem was Mullen thinking Mullen was a kicking coach.

Ive had long conversations about this with former kickers and they pretty much say the same thing. They are left to themselves at practice to work on their game. Mullen will come over there and offer advise but they were their own coach. The "coaching" they received from mullen on actually kicking was minimal. Well see if this quality control position guy will help going forward. Not even sure if quality control guys are allowed to coach on the field at practice but if so he should be a great influence.

Bell and CDM are prett tight based on what I've been told. It's not a slight by Bell. It's just excitement that they're getting an actual kicking coach.

We've lagged behind on staff personnel for awhile- just as we lag behind in asst coaching salaries. We are finally taking steps in the right direction 5-6 years too late.

Late is better than never. Mullen may rejuvenate his career at MSU if these hires are good ones.

That's nothing new. Jackie started practice with kicking after that they were to themselves. One year he had a guy helping but they don't practice long or hard.

I'd still like to see us keep a defensive coordinator for longer than 6 months.

yeahhhh- that would be nice. But I completely expect Sirmon to run back to the NFL come next January. Lather, rinse, repeat

It wont matter, we'll still run the same 4-3 bend but dont break corner blitz scheme that we've been running under Dan Walsh. Wont believe it will be anything else till proven otherwise

So if that is what Dan wants, then that is what we will see. Mullen runs the show, and that's one reason we can't keep a DC around more than a year or two...
