Weekend SOFTBALL THREAD - #23 Bulldogs (10-0) headed back to coast for a 4 game slate

UIW is 3-8 with a win over UTEP and a couple over Alcorn State. This one is about what you'd expect, a game we should win unless we totally STB.

#24 Baylor is 6-3 with a pair of losses to North Texas (6-4) and one to....

McNeese State, who lost 2 out of 3 against Baylor opening weekend. The Cowgirls are 7-2, including a win over TSUN.

If we sweep this weekend, I believe we may well be well on our way to hosting a regional, but.... one game at a time. Let's go all Wyatt Earp on the Cow(boys)girls!

Knudsen and Ward are only sophomores. Green and Cooper are freshmen. Toler, a junior, is really more of a utility player than a pitcher, so , I cut her some slack. Our best pitcher, junior Alexis Silkwood, hasn't even hit the field yet as she's been injured. The future of the pitching staff really seems to be shining bright!!! Am I overconfident?

No. I think this is probably the best staff Van has had. I do suspect some growing pains and the upper SEC teams to beat them up some. Green has a lot of swing and misses in her so far. Just get a little more control. But Ward has been very solid. Have you heard when Silkwood might return?

-Green is averaging 11.7 Ks per seven innings (basically per game), 5th in the nation and 1st in the SEC

-Cooper leads the nation in hits allowed per seven innings (basically per game) with 1.27

-3rd in SEC and 16th in nation in stolen bases per game (2.4 per game...our total is 24)

-Our pitching staff's ERA is 0.51, 3rd in the nation

-Ward, Cooper, Green, and Knudsen all rank in the top 28 nationally for ERA

The Baylor pitcher was their Ace and you can tell. Gave up some walks and hit Niu 3 times. But we didn't hit many balls and only a couple were hit hard.
