My son needs to pick one of two trips. He is almost fluent in Spanish and is majoring in International Business.
1. 10 weeks in Spain - http://international.msstate.edu/pdf/abroad/faculty-led-programs/spain-summer_i_and_ii.pdf
2. 6 weeks in Costa Rica/Nicaragua http://international.msstate.edu/abroad/costa_rica_and_nicragua-spanish_language_and_culture.pdf
Has anyone here had experience with either of these trips or others? Which trip will look better on a resume, which trip will help him become even more fluent in Spanish, which trip will he have more fun on?

I've always been told that Costa Rica is the best place to immerse in Spanish. Latin American Spanish would be more practical in my opinion.

Seems we have a consensus.

Madrid is fabulous, better than anywhere in Costa Rica. There are millions of beautiful women there and there are a lot of other ex-pat students to choose from also.

I would think that Latin American Spanish would be much more practical. That being said, I only know people who have done the Spain trip, and they all had a great time and learned a lot.

Lots of beautiful Italian women there also. But those Latin American women sure do have some nice "ASSets"

I'd love to visit Costa Rica/Nicaragua, but from a trip standpoint, there's no comparison...10 weeks in Madrid. Plus all the short weekend getaways to Lisbon, Barcelona, etc.

Have less of a chance to get off'ed in Spain. Plus, he might want to see Europe before it's completely consumed by the 3rd world.

My daughter did the Spain trip last spring. She got to see a lot of great places because so many are a short train or boat ride away. It was fairly inexpensive for her to live there and her Spanish improved tremendously.

My advice is to make sure he does it.
I spent a semester in Holland. Best semester in college. Plus there won't ever be a cheaper way to spend 10 weeks in Europe/Costa Rica. Not to mention ever having that much free time again before retirement.

Thank you all. Great advice. I think that Spain is where he is going.
