I know that a football staff can have a certain number of guys that can recruit off campus. Do those guys have to be the assistant coaches? Or could we use a staffer such as Brad Peterson to recruit off campus and have an assistant such as Hevesy not recruit? Is that allowable? Just curious.

They do not have to be on-field coaches. OM main recruiter Barney Farrar is a desk coach

Ole miss got an exception granted because coach Werner has a son that has some medical condition.

Go to Alabama Athletic department and you will find very few who were not coaches. That's the way to go. You have tons of guys to do leg work and look at film. Brad can do anything they want. That man has a football mind. He will be on the field coaching one day. In the mean time he will be able to help players develop and help the staff do a lot of stuff to make time for other things like recruiting.

Gotcha. So you do have to be an on the field coach unless there's an exemption?

That's my understanding.
