I had about an hour and half of sleep last night and to stay awake this morning I am blasting the GNR. That got me to thinking...If you could make your own rock band out of the members of any rock band who would you get. My sleep deprived choices:

Vocals - Scott Weiland
Guitar - Slash
Guitar - Angus Young
Bass - Flea
Drums - Lars

I'm clueless on drums, but I'd take your other 3 and add A. Rose. Not that it's the best voice ever, but it's iconic.

Impossible..
Some candidates:
Vocals: Steve Perry, Brent Smith, Paul Rodgers, Chris Cornell, Axl, too many more to chose from..
Guitar: are you kidding? David Gilmour, John Petrucci, Neal Schon, EVH, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Clapton, Trucks, Slash, Alex Lifeson, Satriani, Bonamassa, and on and on
Bass: Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, Flea, Glenn Hughes, Rudy Sarzo, Michael Anthony... I lost my train of thought
Drums: Peart, Mike Portnoy, Terry Bozzio, Anton Figg, Steve Smith, Carmine or Vinnie Appice, Jason Bonham, Jimmy Sullivan, Gary Shaw***, just scratching the surface
You forgot Keys: I ain't even gonna start

I almost went with Axl, but tried to keep it to only one member from a band. I also contemplated James Heffield for vocals, too.

See I actually had strong thoughts about vocals. My reasoning on settling with who I did was choosing someone who wouldn't "battle" the guitarist. I wanted someone to ride the guitars with vocals.

Vocals/bass- Peter Steele * Type O Negative
Lead Guitar/vocals- Jerry Cantrell- Alice in Chains
Lead Guitar - Dave Mustaine - Megadeth front man/guitar
Drums - Dave Lombardo - formerly of Slayer

I threw these phenomenal players together based on style. I think they could have done something special.

Other mentions

James Hetfield is the best rhythm guitarist I've ever heard. Riff master

Alex Webster is an absolute freak bass guitarist, so is Les Claypool.

Cliff Burton* original bassist of Metallica

Dimebag*- most capable guitarist that ever lived. Without rival. He is the guitar king.

Chuck Biscuits- great drummer

Kerry King- riff master

You could put Dave Lombardo on drums in just about any band- rock/metal/jazz/Latin and he'd make them better. Should have replaced Lars in Metallica 20 years ago.
