I think it's laughable that people quoted the "Free Shoes U" as a way to label FSU as a dirty program. Like a free pair of sneakers is even remotely comparable to what goes on behind the scenes nowadays (and even back then too). Credit to Spurrier for making if stick though.

Oh, no doubt. I saw some UGA stuff first hand during that era that was egregious. But, because of Spurrier, they will always be "Free Shoes U" to me. Just like GT will always be the North Avenue Trade School, Ole Miss is TSUN or NMU, USM is the Golden Nuggets, etc. etc.
