View Full Version : This Girls Team could likely be a sign of next year's Boy's Team

Watching the Tittydawgs yesterday- came away with a few observations:

VV is awesome- but teams hound her like a runaway fugitive. The lack of any type of post game is killing her. Nobody has to slide back off her to even consider helping in the paint. Our post players are young, green, and unskilled offensively right now. Literally no help on the offensive end. Our girls cannot dump the ball into the post for some kind of move in the paint. It's nonexistent. VV and #13 are stars- the little PG and 00 are solid as well- but with no low post game- this team just will struggle vs top 10 caliber teams.

That could easily be a preview of our guys team next year. We could end up being IJ, Malik, and Spoon on offense next year- with minimal help in the post from young, green post players.

No doubt we're going to see a drop-off from losing Ware next year. He'd be drafted this summer if he was a step quicker, and that's a lot to replace. I think though between Holman back with 2/3 of a season of experience plus an off-season and the talent we've got coming in, we should be able to come up with a few serviceable post guys.

ditto. The girls ought to be a lot better next year, and the boys will be going thru the same thing as the girls this year. there is no replacement for experience.

#22 and 40 something on Carolina ate us up. Those were some big athletic girls.

Kentucky basketball and Alabama football are good examples, if you got to play em, better play em early in the season.

I appreciate most of what you post C34, especially when you are stirring the pot so exquisitely, but the derogatory name you call our girls is getting old and offensive.
As one who has daughters, please stop.

Has there been any talk of Howland grabbing a graduate transfer to offset the youth a bit?

I don't know coach. Herard actually has a back to the basket game and is a true center already. At 6'10" and 260 he already has the frame to be ready to bang now. Ware is more of a true power forward and not a center. This is his first season to receive good coaching in the post. I think our post game next year will surprise you guys (in a positive way). Ado and Herard are great post men. Ado is much more raw on the offensive end but has Vernado type upside and a rebounding and defensive specialist. I think we will be fine in the post.

I don't see it. We are going to have play a lot of minutes with freshmen. I expect next year to be very frustrating as well. But the third year, I expect a good jump in which we will be a tourney team, but probably no better than a 7 seed without some luck.

They are still going to be Freshman and will struggle with offensive moves, footwork, and the like as they play against guys all the time that are as big as they are. Night in and night out- these guys don't play against people their size in HS ball

I've seen Ado play. He will not be solving our inside game scoring issues overnight.
But he will immensely help our defense and rebounding.

this would be ideal if true to let Malik play PG full-time and then go 3 guards some with Peters getting his time at PG

It only makes sense IMO that Malik and IJ are either/or next year. Been saying it for awhile now.

We are still going to take 2 more in this class as well...

Malik - PG / Peters backup
Weatherspoon - SG / Wright backup
Kegler - SF / Stapleton backup
I think Stapleton can play the stretch 4 / Ado backup
Herard - C / Ado backup

Strugg processed
Ready processed
Carter redshirted (unless he can gain some weight)
I feel that we will sign a juco power forward or eligible transfer in the spring

These are all guesses, obviously.

Correct about Holman. I can see Carter playing if he puts on a little size and strength. He reminds me of Barry Stewart. Barry played as a freshman out of necessity. Carter won't HAVE to play next year.

Nope, just don't think we should talk down about our own teams with juvenile names we would never say to their faces.
And I'm through talking about it.

The mens squad arent suddenly going to have a dillingham. Q isnt that. They arent suddenly going to have the depth the womens team has and they damn sure won have anything resembling a two deep point guard position.

So, the inside out game the women posses in all games but top 25 matchups with teams that have equal liw post depth and the rare letdown of Georgia, wont suddenly come to life fir the mens team.

We'll win with fun and gun next year, and will die by it on the mens side.

And this board will pick those games we are cold and accuse the team of not knowing how to shoot.

Sometimes a team posses the talent it isnt mature enough to utilize.

They will beat the heck out of what we got now. Hopefully a couple or three of those freshmen can shoot the ball. As an example, Q has been an outstanding surprise.

This is my favorite quote regarding Ado's 7'5" wingspan!

"There's only two players in the NBA with a longer wingspan than Abdul," said Linzy Davis, Ado's guardian. "He is the best shot-blocker I have coached, which includes LaMarcus Aldridge and the Lopez twins [Brook and Robin].
